Movie marketing campaign prompted rare public outcry by space agency
Contrary to what you may read on the Internet, the world is not going to end in 2012. A rogue planet named Nibiru is not on a collision course with Earth. And a solar flare won't toast the planet.
It's all fiction, though the makers of the film "2012" may lead you to think otherwise.
"I don't have anything against the movie. It's the way it's been marketed and the way it exploits people's fears," NASA scientist David Morrison at the Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, Calif., told Discovery News.

It never occurred to me that the world would end in 2012 until I was told by the government that it would not end in 2012. NASA isn’t creepy as if it came from a leak by an anonymous white house official but still? Am I just being paranoid here? I would feel safer if you didn’t respond to me. Thank You in advance.

Kind of reminds me of Wag the Dog. There is no Albanian crisis. Besides, how does NASA know it won't end any more than the Mayans' knew it would? Is their science that much better? Or their religion?
