Book To Read
Posted on 11/12/2009 7:55:30 PM PST by Allen In Texas Hill Country
I have 3 weeks of air and ship time starting in a few days and need a good book to read. I'm trying to think of what I'd like to read but have been unable to come up with anything specific. I'm open to most/any suggestions.
Thanks

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. Written 52 years ago, but could have been written last week.

Atlas Shrugged is a life changing book. I would also recommend “Unintended Consequences” by John Ross. It’s available as a PDF — I put it on my Kindle and couldn’t put it down. It really shows the tyranny of our government (and it was written before Obama).

This wee I’ve been on the couch with swine flu and read The Associate by Grishom .....so if you don’t want to or can’t think too hard that one works.
O’Reilly’s Bold Fresh can be laugh out loud funny.

All of these are great reads and are HUGE, but never boring. In fact, you will be annoyed when the pull you away from them.

Ordinary Heroes by Scott Turow. A middle-aged lawyer discovers that his dad, who recently died, was court-martialed during WW2. Son begins reading dad’s diaries, and the story switches between the son’s pov and the dad’s time in Europe during the war. It’s one of the best books I’ve ever read- and it has a great surprise at the end.

Love Free Republic. Adamantly pro choice. Believe God has a place in our schools and other public institutions even tho I don't believe. Maybe try Mere Christianity or the Screwtape Letters by C. S. Lewis.

The General and the Jaguar, a book about Pancho Villa, his attack on Columbus New Mexico, General Pershing, and our ill-stared incursion into Northern Mexico on the eve of WWI: I couldn't put it down once I started. I've read many books on the Mexican Revolution, but in none has the psychopathic nature of Villa been so well described. He was a brilliant organizer, a sometimes inspired general, a gifted public speaker, and an inhuman monster -- sound familiar? It's a book you will not regret reading.
