I have 3 weeks of air and ship time starting in a few days and need a good book to read. I'm trying to think of what I'd like to read but have been unable to come up with anything specific. I'm open to most/any suggestions.
Thanks
>>Youve been in my book stash!<<
I swear it wasn’t me who dog-eared the pages!
Ender’s Game? I’ve read a ton of SF from the 50s thru 70s.
Also, L.E Modesitt is a good writer, mostly fantasy but some sci fi.
I’m reading Bastiat’s “The Law,” but it’s only about 50 pages long. I suggest something with a little more er, weight. Like, “Lonesome Dove.” (Old, but GOOD.) If you want something more edifying, try Mises’ “Human Action.” WEIGHTY. literally.
OK, OK super great and thanks. Now I got to print this thread out and go down to the book store.
Amongst everything I’ve read the Foundation Trilogy.
I’ll look at Ender’s Game for sure.
To all, TYVM.
And I’m for sure waiting for Cheney’s book
Term Limits by Vince Flynn.
Follow it up with his Mitch Rapp series in order. I’m on the third book and I can’t put them down. Great mix of politics, terrorism, and undercover ops. Easy, fascinating reading.
A good read, an eye-opener, political historical fiction. The Amendment a novel After reading it the big question is it real? Go to ‘www.Fitzgeraldbook.com’ You wont regret it.
Click on my name.
A book nobody should miss is “Wild Swans” by Jung Chang. It’s a true story “narrated” by three generations of women who went thru China’s long series of political disasters. It’s a longish book and would probably occupy the greater part of a three week travel/work period. One of the best books I’ve ever read.
The John Adams biography by David McCullough. A fantastic but very slow read. Perfect for a long cruise.
“The Devil’s Horsemen” [the Mongol Invasion of Europe], “Inquest: How the Japanese Lost at Midway”, “Washington’s Crossing” [the Trenton campaign].
i was gonna say ender’s game!
i have only read 2 books twice:
without remorse by tom clancy, and ender's game.
and last xmas i asked for and got ender's game on audio book. and i never ask for stuff like that.
“5000 Year Leap”
You’ll never use the words left vs right again.
2. The Ultimate Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. Because sometimes you are only in the bathroom for a few minutes. Funny in the British humor vein.
3. Islands in the Stream Ernest Hemingway. Which, by the way leads me to my second favorite joke. “Why did the chicken cross the road?” Hemingway: “To die...alone...in the rain.”
4. All the Kings Men Robert Penn Warren The power is in the writing.
5. John Adams by David McCullough Probably my favorite book on this pivotal Founding Father. He is the author of my favorite quote “Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions the state of facts and evidence cannot be altered.”
Five I think is enough. There are plenty of other worthy ones being offered.
Good luck, God be with you on your journey.
“August 1914” by Russian novelist Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn (or anything he wrote). The best writer of the 20th century in my opinion.
