SHERIDAN, Wyo. Retired orthopedic surgeon Chris Smith thought his hunt was over when he bagged a white tail deer with a bow and arrow near Sheridan. Because the light was fading, he decided to return the next day to recover the deer. But when he returned Wednesday morning, the carcass had been covered by grass and bush which is what mountain lions typically do.
Smith, who was unarmed, then saw the big cat about 25 yards away.....

Dumb move.
... purchase a mountain lion hunting license.
Smart move.
Hope he wasn’t planning on eating the deer. Leaving it that long ruins the meat.
..he killed Bambi, too lazy to drag him out
..used da body for bait, to catch da big meow
..used to use a net to catch a buttfly
..come back one day wit a elefant wit one eye
I hear that mountain lion is actually pretty good.
He opted for the license, and dropped the lion in one shot.
I like stories with happy endings.
Bears will cover their kill (or their find) in the same way. I know of an Indian woman in Alberta who was attacked by a bear. She played dead and the bear covered her up and left her. After the bear left she got up and went home.
Tastes like chicken? ;-)
Gosh. Glad she god away before the bear got a case of the munchies a came back to get what he/she ‘left in the fridge’. Eeeek!
^got^
Old elephant face?
We used to regularly leave deer overnight if we shot them late in the evening. Gut them, prop the carcass up off of the ground and prop the body cavity open with some sticks. You have to understand the overnite temperature there was probably in the teens if not single digits. When elk hunting it was nothing for us to get our elk the first day, quarter them and hang them away from camp (bear) and higher than the bears could reach and then stay in the mountains for another five or six days. Take the elk down, haul it to the processing plant to be cut a frozen. It was very well aged and extremely tender.

We heard the story from her husband. He was our Indian guide on a bear hunt in Alberta Canada. He said she was badly mauled and her wounds took years to completely heal. As soon as she was able, she moved from their home deep in the woods, to town. Can’t say I blame her, her story gave me chills as we were deep in bear country when I heard it.

Not as tender as spotted owl, tastes a bit like manatee.
I thought FR rules require a barf alert for all Helen Thomas pictures posted??????
Pistol... Don't leave home without it!
I think that’s the question. Did he dress it and leave to haul it out later, or did he just leave it where it fell?
