Bears will cover their kill (or their find) in the same way. I know of an Indian woman in Alberta who was attacked by a bear. She played dead and the bear covered her up and left her. After the bear left she got up and went home.

Because the light was fading, he decided to return the next day to recover the deer. Say what? Don't shoot unless you have a clear shot, preferably a head shot. Don't shoot unless you plan to field dress it right away, and then get the meat somewhere for further preparation. Our current debates are between hanging to age vs. butchering ASAP. Immediate field dressing is a given.
