Veterans Day

Our country called, they answered,
They risked their lives, their all.
They fought on land, sea, and air,
They saw their buddies fall.
Yet on they fought and they prevailed,
We owe our gratitude.
So give thumbs up, to them, the Vets,
God grant them solitude.
We can’t repay all that they gave,
So show them that you care.
They fought for us, to all be free,
Be thankful they were there.

To Flanders where the poppies blow
This day brings strange unrest.
The boys who lie there, row on row,
Whose lives their Country blest,

Are sad because they died for naught,
The toll they paid for peace
Was all in vain. In vain they fought
That wars should ever cease.

In Freedom's cause they gave their youth,
"Let all wars cease," they cried,
Then flung to us the torch of truth,
They'd held aloft in pride.

And now, above the sacred dust
Where they unquiet lie,
The threat of war again is thrust,
Again brave youth may die.

Our fathers' God to Thee we turn,
Show us the way to peace,
Grant us this boon for which we yearn,
O Father, let war cease!

What a lovely and touching Veteran’s Day Post, Amy and Billie! Thanks you two. I think we all get that lump in our throats on these types of Thanking Our Veterans Days!

My plumber was supposed to be here at 8:00 this morning and hasn’t gotten here yet. Makes me so angry. Wanted him to finish so I could make breakfast.

Heroes Die for Me

I am the flag

I look down upon this land called America .

I have been here since this great nation was formed,

I have seen each battle fought

I have seen the heroes die for me, for my country

Thank you all those of you

Who have kept me flying in the breeze

Keeping this country united as one.

Thank you those of you who have sacrificed your lives,

Giving up all that I may still fly,

Watching over the citizens of this nation.

Thank you all those of you who have ever fought,

I am ever grateful for you.

You risked everything; you faced death each day,

Faced fear, faced many terrible things.

And because of you, my thank you’s ring out,

Filling the sky, echoing from the hills

They find their way to the graveyards,

And to all of you still living,

You are a special kind of person.

To anyone who has ever served this country,

And to those serving today

Thank you.

As I watch life from atop my flagpole,
