A PROMISING young Canadian musician has been attacked and killed by coyotes while on a tour promoting her new album. Taylor Mitchell, 19, was considered a rising star of the folk music scene, having just earned a Canadian Folk Music Awards nomination.
She was hiking alone on the Syline Trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park when a pair of coyotes attacked her.
Tourists rushed to her aid when they heard her screams and found Mitchell bleeding heavily from mulitple wounds "all over her body", according to The Canadian Press. "She was losing a considerable amount of blood from her wounds," paramedic Paul Maynard told TCP. One of the animals was later shot by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, but the other got away.
Park officials said it was highly unusual for coyotes to be involved in such an aggressive attack.

Thankfully I never saw anything bad happen through the years. Sheep actually require a LOT of work, HAVE to be walked every day and a platform built to make them stand on their hind legs while eating. Builds up those hindquarters.
We had to clip and groom them to look good. Now they just shear them down.

Well...never heard of a coyoye drawing blood off a human unless he was near dead or dead. Now, wolves attacking people - yes. Wolves attacking people is writ large in history. I suspect the poor women was either attacked by wolves or a feral dog pack.
I’ve dealt with feral dog packs when I lived in the California backcountry. Carried a pump shotgun on my shoulder and a Buntline on my hip to let feral dogs know who was the boss.
What happened is that STUPID cityfolk would drop off Fido in the bush, thinking they were doing the city mutt a favor. After all, they assumed cans of dog food grew on trees, and whenever Fido got hungry, he could whip out the can opener and eat.
In fact, the mutts packed up, creating a feral dog pack - deadly, uncontrollable and something you’d best shoot on sight.
That is my guess of what happened to this unfortunate woman - a feral dog pack got her. Wouldn’t be the first time feral dogs killed people.

Or rabid. You're right about the feral dog possibility, more likely to attack a human than a wolf and certainly a coyote. But if the RCMP shot one, they must know what it was, though the media might mess it up. A tragic incident, regardless of the culprit.
Probably not “rabid,” if you mean infected with rabies. One time I was able to coax a friendly beagle out of the feral pack. He didn’t belong. Took him to the local animal shelter. The pack leader was a huge mutt, probably weighing 180 lbs. plus. Saw him take down a buck in my driveway. I got stupid - not armed at the time - and charged him and he ran off. I was lucky because he had big teeth and all had was trimmed fingernails, a nice haircut and tennis shoes.
Many of the coyotes here in the northeast are actually part wolf. That is why they are usually bigger that the one in the southwest.
Nevertheless, this is terrible.
And as long as I’m on a rant, let me say that these filthy hippy eco-fascists in the natural science federal bureaucracy will do anything and everything to protect the damn wolves. Wolves could rip out the throats of a dozen kids and they’ll blame it on vampire bats and flying saucers.

One time my car broke down near Rockford, IL. As I walked down the exit ramp to find a phone (I didn’t carry a cell phone yet) a coyote crossed the road less than 20 feet from me, bold as brass. I’m a big man and I was making no effort to be quiet...he knew I was there and was not the slightest bit afraid, looked right at me as he crossed my path.
I'll say. I've never heard of coyotes attacking a human. A rabid one for sure but rabid animals don't associate with others of their kind in the normal fashion.
Well I still want that donkey when we buy a farm. I want peacocks too & a bunch of guns.
That might explain it. That looks a lot bigger and healthier than the coyotes out here in the west.
If I had peacocks I’d want a shotgun for sure. ;^P
I don’t mind the noise. I got used to them when we camped.
