Former Senator Edward Brooke received the Congressional Gold Medal today from President Obama. I looked at the rules for recipients, and one of them is they shall not receive it if they have receive it if they have received another for essentially the same thing. He did. He was the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2004.
NOTES:
"Gold Medalist: President Barack Obama will speak today at a ceremony at the U.S. Capitol awarding former Massachusetts Republican Sen. Edward Brooke the Congressional Gold Medal, one of the nations highest honors. Brooke, 90 years old, will be in attendance. He is the first African-American to be elected to the chamber by popular vote. He served most of his career alongside the late Sen. Edward Kennedy until he was defeated by Paul Tsongas in 1978. In 2004, Brooke was also awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom." http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2009/10/28/wire-watch-brooke-receives-congressional-gold-medal-obama-signs-defense-authorization-congress-examines-head-injuries-from-football/
"In addition to the requirement that all Congressional Gold Medal legislation must be cosponsored by at least two-thirds (290) of the Members of the House, specific standards are set forth by Rule III (f)(1)(A) of the House Committee on Financial Services's Subcommittee on Domestic Policy and Technology when considering such legislation. Additionally, the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee requires that at least 67 Senators must cosponsor any Congressional Gold Medal legislation before the committee will consider it. "
"(C) In considering legislation authorizing Congressional gold medals, the subcommittee shall apply the following stand- ards (i) the recipient shall be a natural person; (ii) the recipient shall have performed an achievement that has an impact on American history and culture that is likely to be recognized as a major achievement in the re- cipients field long after the achievement; (iii) the recipient shall not have received a medal pre- viously for the same or substantially the same achieve- ment; "

Senator Edward Brooke, aka the married man who had a sexual affair with Bawba Wawa.
The man must had held a grudge against his d*ck.
SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 43—AUTHORIZING THE USE OF THE ROTUNDA OF THE CAPITOL FOR THE PRESENTATION OF THE CONGRESSIONAL GOLD MEDAL TO FORMER SENATOR EDWARD BROOKE — (Senate - October 01, 2009) http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?r111:S01OC9-0043:
I think we should do away with all meaningless medals and honors. The ONLY ones we should keep are for the military. Everything else is a waste of my money, and serves no purpose other than making someone feel good about themselves. Let the private sector and charities do that stuff.
NEW YORK (AP) — After three decades of keeping mum, Barbara Walters is disclosing a past affair with married U.S. Senator Edward Brooke, whom she remembers as “exciting” and “brilliant...
“whom she remembers as exciting and brilliant...”
Wawa code words for large member.
Moderate Republican Edward Brooke, who blazed his own trail in Massachusetts in 1966 as the first black popularly elected U.S. senator, said he is “extremely proud and confident and joyful” to see Obama ascend. Obama sent Brooke a signed copy of his book, inscribed, “Thank you for paving the way,” and Brooke sent his own signed book to Obama, calling the presumed Democratic nominee “a worthy bearer of the torch.”
Brooke, who now lives in Florida, won’t say which candidate will get his endorsement, but he does say that race won’t be a factor in his decision.
“This is the most important election in our history,” Brooke said. “And with the world in the condition that it is, I think we’ve got to get the best person we can get.” http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2008-06-14-black-republicans_N.htm
Horney little RINO, eh?
I may be wrong but I believe he beat up his wife. I believe she was white. Anyone remember?
His first wife was an Italian national (WW2 bride). They had a sexless marriage for a long time. Supposedly Brooke was going to leave her for Walters, but didn’t turn out that way. They had an ugly divorce (possible that allegations of abuse may have been aired, I don’t rightly recall), and it led to his nearly losing renomination in ‘78, and then he lost outright to Paul Tsongas in the general election that year (the liberal Dem Tsongas was more Conservative than the ultraliberal Brooke, whose voting record was identical to Ted Kennedy, his seatmate).
n considering legislation authorizing Congressional gold medals, the subcommittee shall apply the following stand- ards (i) the recipient shall be a natural person;
Other than that, he's an old guy who slept with Barbara Walters.
Well, this guy is obviously a "natural person" - but I don't quite think that that's what they had in mind...
