I read somewheres that some of the explorers that came out west from the east died because bear tasted so nasty.

They’d kill a bear and eat the liver instead of the meat, then croak from Vit A poisoning. Guess out of all the animals there are, bear has an absolutely astronomical amount of Vit A in the liver.

Yep. Grizzlies eat a lot of carrion and thus taste like carrion. Black bear from back east eat much more vegetation.
