I hope someone, more knowledgable than myself can help me solve a computer problem. Recently, whenever I try to watch a youtube video I'm not able to get any sound, but when I click on the live feed of a radio station the sound is fine. Can someone perhaps give some ideas on how to solve this very annoying problem? Thanks to any who can help.
go to youtube, check to see if you have the mute button on the YT player. also check the YT vol control.
I’ve tried that, the volume on the YT player is all the way up. Thanks
YouTube uses Flash.
Check to see if you have the latest version.
You might want to just reinstall it and see if that fixes it.
What browser do you use?
XP?
Do you get audio for MS Player videos, for example?
You gotta give us a tad more info....
This is windows, right? What browser? What version of flash?
Sounds like a flash problem for sure. Take this opportunity to make sure you’re using the latest version of Firefox and uninstall and reinstall flash. The latest revs have starting using the GPU for flash video and play large and/or high quality videos a lot better.
Some people post silent videos on YouTube, just video, no sound. I have seen that before.
Or are you having this problem with every video on YouTube?

Candidates I support: Doug Hoffman for Congress, NY 23rd (PayPal), David Harmer for Congress, CA 10th (website for info). Please, spread the word about these important special elections on November 3, 209: New York’s 23rd congressional district and California’s 10th congressional district. |
Well, I’m another who is having the exact same problem.
>>>What browser do you use?
XP?

Browser=FireFox
XP=yes
MS Player + + anything else I use with sound works fine.
Used to work fine, can watch and listen then it doesn’t - several days later I try and it does again, then quits again...
Sound is NOT muted either on the player or on the XP Volume Control... It’s got me stumped too.
I use windows vista home basic, thanks
it is on all the videos, I went to the youtube website just to be sure, maybe it is just a flash player bug.
Lose Windows Player and get something like GOM, no matter what happens.
Set your Firefox settings to clear your cache and history when you exit (History won’t affect sound but it is a good safety measure)
Firefox, Preferences, Privacy, Check “Clear history...” Press the Settings button and check everything
Reboot your computer.
Think I may have found the problem.....
Foxfire 3.5.3 (latest one) is not compatible with the Adobe Flash newest version..... (per message when I tried to update Flash)
Tried opening another browser (Opera - an older version) and it works perfectly.
Really? Interesting. Thanks.
I have heard that Youtube is removing sound from some uploaded files that have copyrighted content within them...such as a popular song used as background music by someone who does not have permission of the artist or recording company to do so. That may be what you are experiencing.
Hi all, thanks for all the help and advice, but I guess it must be a problem with my AOL. I can get sound when I use internet explorer, but not with AOL. so maybe there is a setting or something that has been turned off.
AOL is still alive?....
Damn!
