NEW YORK - Authorities are seeking the public's assistance in identifying a teenage girl who mysteriously turned up in Manhattan two weeks ago, claiming to have no memory of her family, her home -- or even her own name. "I just want to know who I am," the girl says in a statement released by the New York City Administration for Children's Services. The teen, who is being referred to as Jane Doe, continues, "I want to know who I am and what happened to me."

The Caucasian young woman, described by New York ACS as "very soft-spoken," is 5 feet, 6 inches tall, light-skinned, with short, straight, cropped blond hair and blue eyes. Doctors are estimating her age to be between 14 and 17.

Someone cut her hair recently. Maybe this person can ID her.

If I cut her hair like that, I wouldn’t own up to it.

Too bad there is no voice recording.
I could probably peg to within a several states if I heard her accent.

She was disguised as a boy, I wonder if that has a tie-in?

I remember a woman on TV about 25 years ago—maybe it was on David Susskind—who had amnesia from a head injury. When she got home from the hospital, and saw the cat, she got down on the floor and talked to it. She then asked her husband why it didn’t talk to her.

There was a kid that looked like that who showed up in Salt Lake City and claimed amnesia.

Turned out to be a scam.

It was a year or two ago.

Have a feeling this is a 15 minutes of fame thing. I don’t see any stress in her face at all.

This is in Chat?

While I’m also skeptical about this girls claims; lets at least move it to news.

FWIW... I think this is no more of a hoax than last week’s ballon boy story.

“FWIW... I think this is no more of a hoax than last week’s ballon boy story.”

You mean the story that turned out to be a hoax?

It looks like it’s a hoax or scam. She prob. out in the streets for awhile, and is looking for a reality show. Or better yet, a movie or book signing. It’s very coincidental that she was found wandering close to Covenant House.

She has been identified.

The 18 year old whose name is not yet being released, is in the process of being reunited with her family. They are from Washington state and are on their way to New York, New York Deputy Police Commissioner Paul Browne said on Saturday.

A photo of the woman, who has been referred to as Jane Doe, was circulated by police and aired on CNN this week. The viewer in Maryland was familiar with her situation and knew she had been missing from her family earlier this month.
