fyi....
Thanks for the post, I’m contemplating the switch to 7.
Ping for later
Is that true? (Sniff.)

I heartily recommend Wondows 7. Been using Windows 7 RC (release candidate) for 4 months. Compared to XP and anything Vista it’s great.
MS tried to make networking ‘easier’ and mangled it, again, with “homegroup” ... but nothing you can’t overcome in an hour.
Great timing! Just stepped away from laptop while files are backing up. Browsing on my phone now. :-(

MS has an offer for students with a .edu address. The professional version can be purchased for 29.99. It is called the Ultimate Steal (I think). I just found out about it a few days ago. We took advatage of it for my son. Can’t look up the link on my phone—sorry.
I used that PC mover when I went from 2000 to XP Pro and it worked like a charm...don’t think I’ll be going to 7 until they have at least 2 service packs, though...unless they completely end support on XP...which I doubt will happen for a while yet...

I haven’t read anything about driver compatibility. I am concerned with installing WIN7 on my older XP machine and none of the XP drivers working. Anybody had any experience with XP drivers not working with WIN7? Thanks!
I had pre-ordered a copy from Best Buy back when they had a $50 deal last July.
Came today and my upgrade went surprisingly smooth. (With one exception).
Though I had removed ZoneAlarm quite some time ago, some untraceable parts remained and Win7 refused to go further until I took it out. It was not in Add/Remove nor on the All Program tree. No trace could I find but Win7 said it was still there nonetheless!
I Googled and found a link to a ZoneAlarm removal tool which did the trick.
I upgraded from Vista and am shocked that my browser links remained (Firefox, no less!), my cookies were intact and I could just click my normal link to here and made this post without even having to log on.
I’m sure I’ve got a lot of jiggering to do, but so far so good.
