Things are so brutal out there for The Jay Leno Show that even the First Lady for it[sic] may not be able to work a miracle and they just got a little worse. While Leno is routinely beaten in the ratings by 10pm shows on the other big networks, it fell behind another scripted drama on Tuesday, and this one was on cable.
In the all-important 18-49 demographic, Leno was crushed by FXs Sons of Anarchy, which drew 3.7 million viewers and a 2.05 rating to Lenos 1.8. Somewhere, the cast and crew of the potentially cable-bound Southland are no doubt enjoying a delicious, steaming bowl of schadenfreude.
Leno also hit its Monday low this week, begging the question: Can the series expect to enjoy any sort of ratings turnaround, or will NBC stick with Leno until the summer, when it may finally have an advantage against repeats on the other broadcast networks? It may be time to break out the big guns, Jay. Place a call to Meredith Baxter Birney and start working out the terms of her debasement.
NBC’s decision to fire Leno from The Tonight Show for Conan and remove 5 hours per week of prime time dramas to give the time to Leno ranks as one of the worst business decisions.
NBC’s cable networks MSNBC and CNBC are also collapsing in the ratings.
The format for the time would never work as people want to see that crap after the local news. And even worse for NBC is that Conan cannot seem to top Letterman in key demographics.
I despise Jay Leno. During the election he hammered relentlessly and endlessly on Bush, McCain, Palin and the GOP.
I stopped watching when he had on some twit named Chelsea Handler on who spent the entire show telling people how much she hated the GOP, George Bush and McCain
I hope his show is cancelled.

Last decent TV shows were Alfred Hitchcock, Outer Limits, and Naked City.
Looks like you were right about Leno.
Don’t forget Larry Craig. His monologue was Bush stupid,McCain old, and Larry Craig is a fag. Day after day after day.
For years my total viewing of Leno has been limited to the 15 minutes or so a week that are spent on “Headlines”. Not a Leno partisan here but this particular story isn’t as significant as it might otherwise be. I browse the tv ratings and saw earlier this week this item about Sons of Anarchy:
“Last nights outstandingly excellent episode of Sons of Anarchy averaged 3.702 million at 10pm, that was up from last weeks 3.312 million. But even last week SOA was the highest rated scripted show with adults 18-49 on cable and third overall (trailing major sporting events).”
Put another way SOA is a rare cable powerhouse. And deservedly so, it’s an unexpectedly good show retelling Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” on Harleys. Whereas if you miss Leno one night you generally don’t miss anything you can’t catch tomorrow, which makes the choice simpler to make. And SOA like all F/X network original programs is a limited season, so it goes away after several more weeks anyhow.
It’s a problem for Leno and NBC only if this trend continues and spreads to other Leno vs cable matchups.
The harder the Left and their Dear Leader try to eliminate our philosophy and silence our collective voices, (a Liberal term) the more powerful we become and the more people who become active and join our side. Hence, the more people they lose on their side. (FOX News)
the Moderate approach and pandering RINOs are soon to die along with the Liberals who think they can engineer this society into their Socialist model.
All I can say is, PLEASE! Keep trying to eliminate us, we can use the new recruits!
No stimulus for Leno??????
Some of the network shows are already doing reruns, and several are already cancelled or will probably be cancelled soon.
That might help Leno some, unless he does reruns soon.
Holy Cow! I thought I was old. Those were great shows.
Tuesdays are supposed to be Leno’s hot night.
OK, try this one on for size: The O’Reilly Factor averages about 3.5 million viewers for the 8 oclock showing, and another 2 for the 11 oclock showing. That means in a given night, more people watch O’Reilly than Leno.
What is there to try on for size ? Leno and o’Reilly don’t compete.
I’m surprised that Leno has held on as long as it has. That really dumb ‘car race’ and the equally stupid “Ten Questions” are juvenile and ridiculous.
Leno’s obsession with the President Bush and his family are beyond the pale. When in a teaser for one nights show, he held up a picture of Barbara Bush and made a dismal joke about her.
That was it for me.
Isn’t that the truth? Late-night comedians still making George Bush jokes? It is very telling. Nine months into a new administration, with TONS of material to choose from, and these guys still go back to Bush. It’s like Obama failing to take ownership of the economy. At this point, even the viewers at home can see what is going on. Just what will the democrat candidates be talking about for next year’s elections? They will drag out the, ‘Bush Tax Cuts’ for the rich’ and how we’re still in Iraq and Afghanistan because of Bush. They are lost because they don’t have George Bush to run against and only the true believers among them will buy into it. The rest of the country will be staying home or voting the other way.
