Thursday night the five living members of Monty Python -- John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones and Michael Palin -- reunited at the Ziegfeld Theatre in Manhattan for a screening of the theatrical cut of IFC's six-part documentary 'Monty Python: Almost The Truth (The Lawyer's Cut),' after which the quintet, along with a cardboard cutout of the late Graham Chapman, answered audience questions in their classically flippant, self-mocking manner. They also allowed a ten year-old girl to present her portrayal of the famous "Spanish Inquisition" sketch. It's funny to think that when the British troupe began their subversive comedy show forty years ago, it shocked and angered many English parents and governmental authority figures while setting uproarious new standards for television sketch comedy that still resonate today.

I have to be in the right mood for Benny Hill, but I’m always in the mood for Python. I watched the first installment of this Sunday and it is excellent. After it they broadcast their Hollywood Bowl appearance.
Most women despise Benny Hill all the time. LOL
Eric Idle is a very unpleasant man. His shabby treatment of Neil Innes, the brains behind The Rutles was sickening.
I am so glad to see them back together again. I only wish they had never split up 20+ years ago.
I don't know that this is true but I sure suspect it. His attitude and demeanor at the Tonys and a couple other recent appearances really made me dislike him.
He sued Neil Innes and is known to be very unpleasant. I think Michael Palin and Terry Jones are my favorites.
It oozes out of him, that's for sure.
I met Eric Idle in person and he could not have been more gracious to me.<p.He signed autographs, talked about his days with Python, and even thanked me for coming to see his show. Not sure about how treats others, but I was very impressed when I met him.
There was a web site with all the details about how the lawsuit financially ruined Neil Innes. Neil wrote all the music for the Rutles.
It was on a few web sites. Idle then wanted to take the Rutles show to Broadway I think and had to patch it up with Innes. The web sites were scrubbed of the info. The majority of people said Neil Innes was a nice man who was not wealthy and you know who could afford to break him in litigation.
He struck me as a decent guy, and always up for anything. Would be fun to go have a beer with at the pub, and listen to his stories.
Idle tried his hand at an American-market sitcom back in the late 1980s, IIRC (”Nearly Departed”). There were a few funny scenes, but he really seemed like a poor fit with the gentler, less biting humor expected in that venue. I’ll bet he hated the experience.
Wot?
Comic Lunacy? They're back in business working behind the scenes, it appears.
That explains a lot.. Obamonty Python's Lying Circus.
BH was the last gasp of “Gentleman’s Entertainment”...bawdy but not blue, worth a good chuckle, and beutiful eye candy which wouldn’t sneer at being appriciated. Did you know the actress that played Daphne in Frasier was a one-time Benny Hill Girl?
I never watched Frazier. But certainly being a BH alumnus is a resume enhancer.
You forget the incredible Fawlty Towers. To this day my family will sit and watch the episode where “orally” fixes the door. Or the Germans, which is now quite politically incorrect.
Of course, this series could be considered to be an offshoot in a way of Python.
XM Radio’s channel 151 (and Sirius, too, I suppose) will have that Reunion Q&A session on tonight at 6pm EDT. Part of their Monty Python week (all Python, all the time... roughly 5 days to go, I think).
Python wouldn't have been nearly as good without her ability to pull off (not a pun) the material (not a pun) that she was handed.
They were guests on Olbermann. I haven’t thought they were funny since I quit smoking dope 30 years ago.
No, they didn't.
