DETROIT — Autopsies were planned Monday a day after three half-marathoners collapsed during the Detroit marathon and died, organizers said.

Perhaps. Almost all races of that distance give out free energy drinks in addition to water at the hydration stations. Many also give out energy gels.

Autopsies expected after 3 die during Detroit race Autopsies are more or less SOP after the sudden death of otherwise healthy people. Unless they are young women who drowned in a Senator's car. (Gives a new meaning to the old saw, "I'm a shoe-in unless they catch me with a dead girl or a live boy." Calling Bawney Fwank!)
I'm betting they had the arteries like Bill Clinton. It would have been far more surprising if they weren't autopsied.
