intersting account of the sinking in scapa flow. especially the part about using the ships anchor lights to attack. fairly incredible that anchored warchips in time of war would be so illuminated.

guenther prien, the U boat captain, did not survive the war. its believed he was sunk south of iceland, possibly by the Wolverine. good article here:

Vaals, the Netherlands, Ocgt 18 (AP) -- "Packed into the southeastern corner of the netherlands, just adross the Maas River bridge west of the Roermond and well behind the actual frontier, is a tremendous force of armed, blond giants. If war comes to this country, it will be their job to fight with their backs to the "water line" while engineers loose the shallow flood waters that will make an island of western Holland with its populous cities and the bulk of its army...

Most curious to see the Dutch referred to as "blond giants." Yes, today it's said that Dutch on average grow taller than any others, but that was not the case years ago.

I wonder how these "blond giants" will stand up against Hitler's airborn troops?
