Here is newly released home video by the family of "Balloon Boy" Falcon Heene of the liftoff of the balloon from the backyard yesterday. You see the father, Richard Heene, doing a countdown, and then the balloon takes off with the father appearing agitated. The father was close to the balloon as it took off. . . . (VIDEO)

I think Dad is gonna get all the attention he needs in jail.
There is something seriously wrong with these people....they should be investigated by CPS....they may be insane.
Shepard Smith was worse, believe me.
Oh gawd. Did you see his eyes?
“I knew he was a booze hound, by the way he stumbled in.”
lol
It is VERY clear that there’s no way a 40-50 lb payload (ie, a 6 yr old boy) could be on board. The balloon is partially deflated at take-off. There’s no imbalance in the “gondola”, and there’s clearly very little weight to the structure itself. If his little wife can hold it down with a single tether, by herself, then there’s no way it could pull a small boy aloft. My opinion is that they knew darn well that their boy was not on that balloon, and they deserve the negative attention they’re about to receive.
So where is the real stupid tipoff....
Don’t tell me the parents didn’t know about the attic hideaway...The kid was probably caught up there 100 times already.
They knew. Dad was there in the backyard.
Just like the “runaway bride”, Dad needs some punishment.
“I think Dad is gonna get all the attention he needs in jail.”
That and some heavy duty fines.
I agree, but your #2 is inaccurate. I saw a LEO rush to the bottom part of the balloon and it looked like he opened a hatch or something on the side. Someone was definitely crouched down there looking for the kid inside.
Perhaps his image is of Harrison Ford in The Mosquito Coast.
You can see the full contraption at 1:57 in this 2:42 video from that show.
I was just thinking that if they’re foolish enough to try to pull off a stunt like this, they were probably foolish enough to believe the Big O and his Magical Promises.

Right. Now it appears that podunk Colorado sheriffs are aficionados of interpretive dance and use that to determine who's telling the truth. I think what this means is that his deputy sheriff's ineptitude in searching the premises twice makes them hope that this bizarre episode will just fade away. Good luck with that.
Some law enforcement agency from OUTSIDE of Colorado needs to take over here before this becomes another demonstration of CO LEO incompetence like the Jon Balloon Ramsey case.
I don’t see anything like that on this video, although the view is obscured for several seconds:
http://www.smh.com.au/world/balloon-boy-found-hiding-in-cardboard-box-20091016-gzgt.html?autostart=1
I watched it live, very closely, expecting the officer to come back out with the child. He crouched down and it looked like he opened a little door or something and was looking in. After that, there were people standing around doing nothing for a while.
I don’t get the news story that goes with the image. It’s perfectly clear that the balloon was launched WITHOUT a gondola, thatthere was no way for the child to be inside the balloon, and that there is no way that balloon could have picked up a child.
It’s also clear that the father knew the balloon had lifted off.
So when we were told yesterday that there was a gondola on the balloon, that the 6-year-old was in it, and that it was launched by the kids, and the brother had seen it, those were all clearly lies.
Send the Dad a bill for $100,000.00 to cover rescue costs. Film that.
Obviously Super Dad didn't think the whole scenario out very well.

Ding, Ding, Ding! - Spot on observation - WE HAVE A WINNER!
That was my assessment also.
The media could have eliminated much of the wild speculation if they had reported the dimensions of the balloon, but that would be informed reporting.
