NEWRY, Maine A Maine couple has taken the crown in the North American Wife Carrying Championship over a course that featured a muddy water hole and two log obstacles. Dave and Lacey Castro of Lewiston beat a field of 41 teams to win the competition Saturday at Sunday River ski resort in Newry. They covered the 278-yard course in 54.45 seconds.
For their effort, the couple won Lacey's weight in beer and five times her weight in cash $485. In all, teams from 11 states competed in the 10th annual race in which a man has to carry a woman, or vice versa, over an obstacle course. As the North American champs, the Castros are eligible to compete in the world championships in Finland next July.

That would send me into brainlock.
Do I want a heavy wife I can barely carry but could potentially bring me more beer? Or do I want a petite wife I could easily carry to victory for a lesser amount of beer?

Well, it seems like the winner went with the lighter wife. They won $485.00 So she weighed 97 lbs. (485/5) Probably the best chance to win is a lighter wife...

So, did any women carry any men in this contest, just to be fair?
I know a few women up here who could carry two men ...and a couple of six-packs.

So she weighs in at 97 pounds... Or roughly 44 liters of beer, give or take...which equates to about 124 12 ounce bottles of beer...she's only worth about 5 cases of beer. Not sure it would be a good idea to trade up though...see what she weighs after she drinks all that beer. ;)

It would take a crane to get my wife over my shoulders.
Then I would collapse from the weight.

I object. I still want to see a woman carry the man division. Where's N.O.W. when you need them? Certainly there are a few qualified candidates in the old country.
