Anybody ever install VMware Server under Windows/ME?
I got it working under Win2K, but am thinking about something leaner and meaner for the hypervisor part.
Experiences? Positives? Negatives?
You're joking, right?
I use vmware server on 64bit fedora11, not sure I would even want to try it on something like ME.
That depends: Are you going to install it with a 5 1/2” floppy, or use a cassette recorder?
I’m with justlurking. This is some kind of test right? This is one of those shows where they get participants to do very silly things in pursuit of some prize.
WindowsME?????
VMware works well on xp, NT, 2003 or 2008. I wouldn’t try it under ME. I don’t think the current versions of VMware are even compatible.
I use VMware all the time.
But with ME........???????
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha.....more Ha Ha........
Works great!
Remember when the radio stations used to play the programs over the air?
You could analog record them, then feed them into your Commodore or whatever...
I’m just askin a question here, don’t need alot of folks telling me how stupid I am, cause I already know that...
Windows ME??? That hurts just thinking about it.
No.
You forgot the (/humor) tag. Everyone knows Windows/ME was a complete joke of an operating system and only fools bought it.
If you really wanted a slimmer hypervisor, you'd look to Linux and Xen.
I have a laptop somewheres with Windows 3.1 installed.
Think I should give it a shot??
;-)

I 2nd that recommendation.
Uhh...Windows ME is DOS based. That’s not going to work.
If you want to reduce the overhead, run VMware Server under Linux, or use VMware ESXi, if you’re using it for server-type stuff, and don’t need to interact with it on the same machine.
Ouch!
If you want mean and lean try windows xp embedded.
Be sure not to fold your hypervisor.
I run a couple of small clusters as xen guests on a multi-processor xeon at work. The host O/S is Linux Fedora 8. Works fine.
For Windows, several of us have recently tried out VirtualBox from Sun. It is easy to run on Windows Vista, but I don’t know about whether it works on ME.
Since your O/S is “dated”, can we presume your processors are dated? Some of the recent Intel and AMD processors have added some great support for virtual servers.
Also, I suspect your system won’t support a whale of lot of memory. It’s hard to get interesting things done in less than 500 MB on a guest.
What guest O/S do you plan to use?
Will not work. You can't virtualize on top of a virtualized system. Then there's the fact that the Windows and VMWare hypervisors are incompatible.
