Panic At CBS AS Suits Realize They Are On The Hook For 100s of Millions $ For Letterman The Letch
Friends and fiends at network in NY | MB26

There is panic at Black Rock

Last evening, at an executive-level party attended by some of the Senior Suits from CBS, (and others,) Letterman was the ONLY topic of conversation. There was clearly panic in the air. And old friend/fiend who was there said it was more delicious than the cold Hors’ Dourves and watered down Scotch.

There was no concern for the moral implications of Letterman’s actions, of course. The big worry was about the huge cost of litigation from all the victims of Letterman’s slippery zipper.

When the news of the trouble was first announced, there was about an hour of relief that “Dave” had dodged the bullet and the show/network was safe.

Then the calls from the lawyers started. It didn’t matter whether they were from CBS outside counsel or the victims lawyers; the message was all the same. “It’s goona cost big time.” In Letterman’s pathetic attempt at humor, he had proven all the potential plaintiff’s cases, and turned millions of potential jurors against him.

At first CBS itself thought they were protected by two elements. His staff may actually work for World Wide Pants, Inc, Letterman’s separate, private production company. Sorry, but that will only slow the lawyers down for about 30 minutes. CBS provided the working environment, venue, etc.

CBS IS on the hook for any damages.

Secondly, many liability policies specifically exclude or limit coverage for sexual harassment. No one was willing to talk about that end of it…. but those that knew were not happy.

Bottom line, when all said and done, depending on how many women (and possible men) were involved/victims, CBS will probably write checks in the $100,000,000 range. They cannot afford to let this go to public trial... and therefore any settlement will be for "telephone numbers... with area codes!"

Serves them right!

And Sarah Palin’s book is doing so very well everywhere…..

Do you think letterman can be embarrassed? He’s too arrogant for that. If SEE BS lets him go, he may run for congress..he’ll fit right in.

Clinton set the precedent

After lying on TV about Monica a 70% approval rating

Boob Americans can be spun very easily

This isn't about Letterman's sex life Per Se, it is about sexual harassment in the work place. It is also about Letterman's BS harassment of Sarah Palin's 14 yo daughter and claiming she had sex(even though joking)with a baseball player on the field.

He took a "I'm morally superior to Sarah" attitude acting as if her sex life and her daughter's sex life was of national concern and that Sarah and her daughter were perverts.

Well, he is the real pervert and it is coming home to roost. No one cares how many women outside of his workplace he slept with, but one does care about his forcing women(even if it is just a perception)to sleep with him in order to keep their jobs.

I call BS on most of this article. As much as I would like to see this happen, it is a pipe dream. Just having sex with a subordinate in the workplace does not constitute sexual harassment. Even if the elements of harassment are established, the plaintiffs can only recover their actual damages, It's hard to see where that could exceed a couple of million a piece.

The solution is simple:

Fire Letterman, re-hire Dan Rather as the new host of ‘The Late Show’

Rather has already proven that he’s funnier than Letterman, since he’s been underwriting the cost of his failed lawsuit against CBS for over 2 years, now THAT’s funny! LOL

“The mills of justice grind slowly, . . .”

Ah, but they grind exceedingly small.

In that the “victims” likely work for Mr. Pedophile Letterman’s production company, to how much liability is CBS really exposed? It could bankrupt Mr. Pedophile Letterman, but it might not affect CBS too much.

The only people who care about Letterman's sex life are Letterman and people who can make money off of him.

And of course, people who are enjoying watching him going down in flames.

But what about liability for the young women who just couldn’t do without a high-value sperm injection from an alpha male? Do they bear any responsibility for their simian behavior? Shall we remain silent on this?

In this instance, yeah. Letterman had plenty of fun with a Senator who moved his foot too far over in a bathroom stall and was entrapped. I see no reason to throw him a lifeline when he's been more than happy to hammer others over far less egregious behavior.

I absolutely agree. String him up! I do think, however, that this Lewinskyite behavior on the part of females deserves some serious discussion.

But, if I were on the jury, CBS and Letterman would both be safe. Assuming the sex was consensual and not forced under threat of dismissal, each gold-digger would get about a dime, plus another $100.00 out of sympathy for having done Letterman.

Lawsuits would also come from all the women (and men) who had NOT slept with Letterman. Look up "hostile work environment". Giving more favorable treatment in a work environment to somebody because she's sleeping with you, is discrimination against the entire rest of your staff.

When one knows not what they are talking about, it is not wise to write it down for everyone to read.

1, sex with a person in a subordinate position, when that person can elucidate that they felt the act was necessary for their job, would curry favor, would lead to promotion, etc, is the highest level of tortuous act of workplace sexual harassment/abuse

2, What are you talking about, actual damages? The very act of having sex with the boss generally removes the actual damages, you don't miss a salary, etc. It's all punitive damages.

Old Latin phrase, "Speak not before knowing."
