Hard to believe, but Friday marks the 50th anniversary of The Twilight Zone, the twisty-turny, highly influential science-fiction anthology series. (Or does it? No, wait, it does.)

The episodes were all low-budget: simple sets, few characters, sometimes only one or two actors, little or no special effects, black and white, ...
Yet after 50 years they still are excellent.
Great writing and pretty good acting are the most important things, I guess.
Loved Mr Death! He was a kinder gentler Mr. Death!
Did it? I can believe it. I remember seeing it in 7th grade english lit. The original story was actually written just after the civil war by Ambrose Bierce. That was always the secret of the Twilight Zone the writing was just amazing.
The Monsters are Due on Maple Street
Love Jonathan Winters!
The Fear (The Twilight Zone) 1964 Season 5, Episode 35
Sheriff Robert Franklin and brooding New York socialite Charlotte Scott (recuperating from a nervous breakdown) find themselves trapped in a remote cabin as unexplained occurrences indicate the presence of a mysterious force. Bright flashes of light are seen, strange craters appear, and the sheriff's car moves-on its own. Back inside, Charlotte hears strange noises on the roof; when Robert goes outside to investigate, he finds nothing, but notices that his car is back in place-covered in gigantic fingerprints. The two sleep nervously, and go out into the woods the next morning, seeking the giant monster. They find an enormous footprint, leading the socialite to run away. She soon stumbles and falls-directly into the path of a 500-foot-tall “Martian” with one eye. Realizing that no one will believe their story, the pair is left to stand against the beast. Robert shoots it...and it deflates, revealing itself to be an enormous balloon. The true source of the problem is a small alien spacecraft, containing two aliens no bigger than a man's thumb. They reveal that all of their trickery has been foiled by “man's inability to be afraid”, beg their superiors to allow them to depart (or, in their eyes, face being crushed), and finally flee.
LOL!!! Thanks for my new desktop...raw emotion!
I think that is “What you need”
Scared the heck out of me, too. I was five years old. No wonder. Serling was a creative genius.
Just keep your concentration focused on November 2010, and let's get our Republic back on track!
I am tired of ghosts and goblins trashing everything we love!
I liked the one (I think it was a Twilight Zone) where Burgess Merideth figures out it is the end of the world with red moon indicating the Sun has gone supernova. He finally asks the Librarian (or something) out for a date.
The other is the one with the odd assortment of people (clown, ballerina, soldier, etc.) trying to get out of some prison. Finally, when all hope is lost they work together and one of them breaks free and gets set to rescue the others. Until “he” gets thrown back into the bin with the rest of the donated dolls.
Growing up, reading these twisted stories and watching older Twilight Zone episodes, I never thought they were predicting our country's future. Only warning us about what could come to pass. Now the Twilight Zone is the country's reality.
OUTSTANDING thread, dude! Brings back lots of memories! Thanks for starting it.
