More importantly, someone should tell the congressman that Jesus said, ... "GOD helps those who help themselves!"
Content is everything.
The Bible also says if you don’t work, you don’t eat.
I'll agree with your first sentence, but in point of fact it was Benjamin Franklin that said the second, not Jesus - FWIW.
maybe he would like to further misquote. by context, other verses of the Bible.
“Am I my brothers keeper” Cain speaking to God, after murdering his brother Abel.
Barry O. constantly misquotes the Bible saying “As the Bible says, I am my brother’s keeper”.
St. Paul:
“For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “If a man will not work, he shall not eat.”
The 7th commandment: “You shall not steal.”
I didn’t know Jesus said that to the Roman Senate.
“when I was hungry, did you feed me? When I was sick, did you care for me?”
And when I gave you the shirt off my back did you ask me “what else you got?”
Actually that’s not in the Scriptures. But I do agree that Kucinich is quoting Jesus way out of the original context. It’s a stretch to take those words and infer that if you don’t follow the socialist Obama agenda that you are not following the words of our Lord Jesus. I can just as easily argue that the Obama plan will prevent me from following those commands by giving the power to the State and not allowing me as an individual to live up to the ideal behavior Jesus commands.
>> “when I was hungry, did you feed me? When I was sick, did you care for me?”
Jesus did say these things. To INDIVIDUALS. Individuals should practice charity. Voluntarily.
Government handouts are not charity. Charity is not “rob peter to pay paul”.
Jesus did NOT say, “When did you vote to have your government rob others at gunpoint to feed me and care for me?”
I guess Dennis isn’t clear who He was referring to as “You.” Dennis thinks that means, “make someone else do it.”
He did not say: ".... when I was hungry, did the government feed me? When I was sick, did the government care for me?"
The responsibility for charity rests with individuals, not with the government.
Just so ya know, Jesus never said that. AND it’s not Biblical, just popular ... as in “praise the Lord and pass the ammunition”
“More importantly, someone should tell the congressman that Jesus said, ... “GOD helps those who help themselves!”
Maybe not! The saying originated from Algernon Sydney in 1698 in an article titled Discourses Concerning Government.
Is Representative Pipsqueak Nutball now calling for a state sponsored religion?
When he ran for President, did anyone vote for him?
No.
I don’t think Jesus was addressing the Roman government when he said this . . . big difference.
And God only wants 10%.
GOD helps those who help themselves

I don’t remember ever seeing that in scripture, although God did say....if a man won’t work he won’t eat.
He breached the brick wall between religion and state. If you breach you must impeach.
That was Gene Hackman, as the priest in "The Poisiden Adventure."
