Free Republic Homeschoolers’ Forum 2009-2010

A spot for homeschoolers on Free Republic to share information

The Free Republic Homeschoolers’ Forum is an annual thread where homeschoolers share tips and talk about curriculum.

Included on this year’s forum:

GET STARTED HOMESCHOOLING
This year, in response to requests from other parents, we have put together a guide for anyone interested in homeschooling. (See below.)

HOMESCHOOL RESOURCES (in alphabetical order)

Scroll down for the latest list of educational resources recommended by homeschoolers on Free Republic. Corrections and updates were made to the previous list. Links to any product or website no longer available were deleted. Then the recommendations made last year were added. Also, a list of links to resources right here on Free Republic has been expanded under Free Republic Library. As always, feel free to share advice with other homeschoolers in the comments following on this thread.

This will be the final list. Thank you to all who have contributed! If you would like to add more recommendations, please add them in the comments section.

CONGRATULATIONS to all homeschooled students who have graduated this year! Many blessings to you and your families! May you enjoy continued success.

A big THANK YOU to Jim Robinson and to all who make Free Republic work.

I've been looking for curriculum on these sites:
http://homeschoolclassifieds.com
http://www.theswap.com

I haven't found what I'm looking for yet but these seem to have a lot of stuff on them. Hope this helps.

Language learning resource

Consider "adopting" a college student, or couple, from a Muslim nation. Their brief stay here might be their only chance to interact with happy, functioning, Christian families. If you study the language, you will have a superhighway into their hearts. Your kids will also learn valuable lessons about grace and election -- those outside of God's saving grace (at least for now!) can be wonderful, charming, people. It's done our girls, 11 and 13, a lot of good to have surrogate big sisters to pray for.

And yes, they are making slow but steady progress with their Turkish lessons.

Do you belong to any local homeschool email groups? For my state, there are several where homeschoolers send messages offering to either sell something or swap for something else. I found many of those groups just by searching “Yahoo Groups”.

What about the local homeschool swaps and fairs? Have you tried them yet? We’re overwhelmed with stuff, too, that I don’t want to throw away, but I can’t find anyone to take it. It seems every homeschool family is in the same situation. :-(

Oh, so sorry to hear it. Mr Klicka was a generous and talented man.

He and his family are in our family’s prayers.

I've actually had pretty good success with eBay. It is seasonal, though. May through July seem to be the best time. You might also research local/regional groups that have homeschooling fairs where they sell materials. I haven't participated in any of these, but friends have had good experiences.
