LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Watching the Dave Matthews Band moments before they take the stage is like watching a football team bursting out of the locker room before a big game.
They slap hands. Bump fists. Jump up and down, exclaiming "Feel the love, feel the love!" The energy in the air is electric.
And when they walk out on stage, the energy explodes into thousands of shining faces. People dance in the aisles. Others sing every word to every song. A few share funny cigarettes.
For more than three hours, the jubilant atmosphere creates a sense of community between an amphitheater filled with strangers and the ethnically diverse musicians leading the charge on stage.
But then DMB is all about community -- creating its own and giving back. BAMA Works Fund -- the group's charitable foundation -- has handed out $5 million in grants to worthy causes, including schools and victims of Hurricane Katrina. Video

Agreed...everything I ever heard out of this extremely overrated band was a total yawner. Pointless and shallow noise posturing as something deep and worth your time.
Dave Matthews Band offers DNA to ID waste
The Dave Matthews Band pleaded for patience from its fans and the people of Chicago as police continued to investigate allegations that a bus the band used dumped human waste onto a tour boat in the Chicago River earlier this month.
There is also annoying, repetitive non-music everywhere performed by spastic idiots who always look like they need a bath.
Exactly...their music is bad enough, but all the self-important posturing makes it even more unbearable.
Same opinion here on the DMB. I like the Robert Cray Band 1000% more.
There’s a handful of songs by DMB that I like. The musicians are pretty good, especially the drummer.
But it’s like anything. Write enough songs, eventually something will come out pretty good. But, everytime I get the hankerin’ to play a DMB CD, I get through one or two songs before I eject it.
His politics suck, however.
“How many black people go to a Dave Matthews concert?”
7, including bartenders and security guards.
Since we are all racists, that means Obama was elected via voter fraud.
LOL. Good point. And he likely was, racist or not
Finally something we agree upon, Dave!!! Now please put a large sock in it.
I have two DMB albums (Under the Table and Dreaming and Crash) and I actually like them. I do not care for his politics and wish he'd keep his trap shut about them. I suppose he could go back to South Africa if the U.S. is such a lousy, racist place.
I always love listening to these capitalism-loving, carpetbagging celebrities (Bono comes to mind) sanctimoniously telling us how we need to straighten out our country, when their own homelands are wrecks.
Shut up and sing, guys.
Better yet, just shut up.
After watching Matthews on HDnet to see what all the clamor was about, I’d have to day his next good song will be his first.
LOL
Feh. Seymour Cray for me.
Cheers!
Racism everywhere - kind of ironic cause the left loves to make fun of the “McCarthy period” when people thought there were commies everywhere - now they see racists everywhere and that’s just fine.
CNN: President Carter said he thinks that a lot of the animosity directed toward President Obama is race related.Dave Matthews: Of course it is! I found there's a fairly blatant racism in America that's already there, and I don't think I noticed it when I lived here as a kid. But when I went back to South Africa, and then it's sort of thrust in your face, and then came back here -- I just see it everywhere. There's a good population of people in this country that are terrified of the president only because he's black, even if they don't say it. And I think a lot of them, behind closed doors, do say it. Maybe I'm paranoid about it, but I don't think someone who disagreed as strongly as they do with Obama -- if it was Clinton -- would have stood up and screamed at him during his speech. (Shakes his head) I don't think so.
OFFICIAL RELEASE: Two CODEPINK activists disrupt McCains RNC speech (Sep 4, 2008)
They were both released within an hour with no charges.
This lying whining scumbag pretends that the last 8 years "never happened". This is the current culture and the Left was silent over their own extremist tactics. They cheered when an Iraqi journalist threw a shoe at president Bush. They guffawed when he choked on a pretzel. Chickens are coming home to roost, Dave. That's all.
Hollyweird celebrities get to spout their political views on a national news network simply because they are famous and hold the "politically correct" world politics.
Dave Matthews did not EARN the attention of the public for his politics, only for his band's music. But he hijacks the limelight and spouts politics. He's the perfect example of giving the podium to someone who did not earn it.
Matthews: "I don't think socialism, and I don't think warmness and respect are necessarily bad words."
That's like saying that Nazism, Puppies and Ice Cream are also happy words.
Socialism and Nazism and Communism are all bad politics.
