The Mayor of Munich has opened the 176th Oktoberfest beer festival with the traditional cry of "It's tapped!"
It took the mayor, Christian Ude, just two swift strokes to pound a spigot into the first massive keg of beer.
Following festival protocol, he handed the first litre mug, called a "Mass", to Bavarian Governor Horst Seehofer.

When a beer drinker dies is it Oktoberfest every day? The reason I ask is because that sure looks like heaven on earth to me!

Good catch NT
Although the original Oktoberfest in 1810 was in October, the annual 16-day bash into which it has developed is now held during the last two weeks of September (ending on the first Sunday of October)

A 12-gun salute signaled to the hundreds of thousands that it was time to get the beer flowing

1988- I got so trashed there it was a sad sight. I wound up losing my friends and sleeping next to the car for about three hours. I’m pretty sure I had a good time, tho.

Such fun loving good people. It's hard to believe they were "hopey changied" into doing what they did.
What about US? Are we better, smarter?

LOL ..I'm sure you did!
The 16-day festival is a huge tourist draw for this southern German city. Six million visitors from all over the world are expected to prowl Munich's sprawling 31-hectare Theresienwiese grounds in search of a coveted seat inside the beer tents
