Free Republic used to be the most up to date web site where you could go for the latest news. Now it's been overrun with so many personal blogs and opinions that it's a chore to wade through all the personal stuff to find the real headline news. Even religous post like the daily rants of Joel Osteen, (whom I detest because he's a fake getting rich off gullible Americans)is allowed to be posted on a regular basis but you're not allowed to refute anything he says. Why is he not being put in religion where he belongs? The categories have all run together and it's hard to find most of the actual news. I will probably be banned and this message pulled but I don't care. It needs to be said. who is going to contribute money to a forum where anyone can post what-ever they want where ever they want?
By the way, if you don’t like or don’t agree where something is put, click the abuse button. Maybe the mods just don’t know about it.
Also remember, if someone posts some strange thing in news versus religion, there is a positive. News doesn’t have the protections that religion has in terms of decorum. :->
I just go to all articles and use my clicky thing at will.
88?
There’s a very simple way around vanities — simply click on Breaking News (News/Activism), then make it your bookmark for Free Republic.
Sheesh!
(1) So you answer the problem of too much garbage (as you see it) by posting another garbage vanity? Looked up the word “hypocrit” lately?
(2) You say that you will probably be banned for your post (winner!) in the same post that you complain about anyone being able to post anything? You should look up “irony” (as in unintentional irony) while looking up “hypocrit.”
IBTZ!
my bad, 98..
“Youre correct....the vanity blog posts are completely out of control....as are the video-without-text posts....and Satire posts which are 99 out of 100 times, completely retarded.”
You left out the “I hate posts about...” posts and the grammar police posts...oh...and the one that REALLY kills me...when someone stops what they are looking for and responds to a post by saying “why are you wasting your time on that?” posts...
...and may I also direct you to the right side of the main page where it clearly says:Browse by Forum
May I suggest that if you don't want to read anything but news and current events...don't "browse" anywhere else but "News/Activism"...Nowhere in the FR rules does it say that you must go everywhere....
...what got your panties all in a wad this afternoon anyway?
“A vanity against vanities!”
Oh, the hugh vanity!
I don’t know why Joel Osteen isn’t put in “religion”, you could hit “abuse” and ask the moderator on the next Osteen post. Maybe the religion folks don’t want him.
You posted in general-chat, which seemed to work just fine. I’ve noticed that some people have been posting blogs as news/activism, and again I think just telling the mods would take care of that problem.
So long as things are put in the right categories, it shouldn’t matter to anybody how many things are being posted, except for the owners.
If you just want news/activism, then just look at news/activism, and ignore the bloggers/personal and other categories.
The only problem I see is people putting stuff into the wrong categories, and the moderators can take care of that as they see fit, including suspending or banning freepers if the moderators decide the freepers are abusing things.
Of course, some freepers could well get special dispensation to put things in the “wrong” place, which is why I suggest posting to the mods instead of handling it by complaining in threads.
this looks like a vanity that could turn into an opus... and I haven’t seen a good FR opus in quite some time!
Lame choice.
IBTZ!
Yes, 55 years after Crucifiction.
But at least it’s in general/chat, not breaking news.
brilliant!!!
I assumed the poster must have been talking about a Joel Osteen Caucus. Is that not the case?
It is my understanding that this well-established forum welcomes conservative commentary and news releases.
If commentary by bloggers offends you, you can simply opt to view “only news” by choosing to “browse by forum” in the righthand sidebar. Further, you are, of course, encouraged to add your comments to posts that you perceive both as “offensive” and “agreeable”.
Let’s face it, the American people are waking up. Many who have never been involved in the political process (other than, perhaps, by voting) are expressing their opinions. As for me, give me an open forum like FR or go somewhere else for your news and commentary.
