CRANSTON, R.I -- Ivan G. Marte, chairman of the Rhode Island Republican Hispanic Assembly, says he has quit the GOP out of embarrassment at South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson's outburst during President Obama's address to Congress last week.
Wilson shouted 'You Lie,' when Obama remarked that illegal immigrants would not receive benefits under his health care plan.
"I do not want to continue being a member of a party in which the members of the party express themselves in that way," said Marte, 59, of Cranston. In a phone interview, he called Wilson's behavior "shameful" and "uncivilized."
But Marte said Wilson's outburst was the last straw in a series of disappointments that led him to break with his party.
Marte became "disenchanted" with Governor Carcieri after the Republican governor sought his advice -- and then ignored it, Marte said -- concerning the 2008 executive order cracking down on illegal immigration. Carcieri's order angered many in the Hispanic community.

I looked that is the only place on the net that had his name other then two elections that he lost. he is a unknown.
Excuse hunter bags his trophy and returns to the hacienda.
Mr. Marte, Let me be the first to say:
Did he really quit over Wilson or were his panties aleady in a knot over being dissed by the Gov?
I smell a pol who ran in the GOP because there was too much competition in the Democrat party, he wanted a seat. Any true Republican knows that it is the party of the INDIVIDUAL, what one does is not what every other does. We notice no other Republican "expressed" himself in the manner that Joe Wilson did that evening.
This guy is just trying to score points with someone, obviously.
Now this is change I can believe in...
Looks like a Lefty to me.
My experience with local GOP organizations are they are run by democrats.

LOL. We really have a sorry state of leadership in certain ways and in certain parts of the GOP.
Good ridance, hopefully he will deport himself!!!
Oh really? One’d think that all the legal Hispanic immigrants and their descendants would expect all other immigrants to also come legally no matter what racial background they had.
Sounds like Hispanics being racist against all non-Hispanics. Next thing this lunatic will do is wave flags for Aztlan.

“Well...bye.”
“Democrat party has always been the party of slavery, sedition, subversion, socialism and surrender”
and segregation
and urban ghettos
and real racism
AMEN!
You LIE! Silly reason.
Republican Hispanic Assembly?
Racism has no place in my Republican Party.
WE ARE AMERICANS!
GOOD RIDDANCE, A$$HOLE!

I agree. You’d think they would expect those coming to follow the same rules. The reason many of those do not even attempt legal immigration is because they either could not qualify or because it is too easy to evade the system. I have several reasons.
1. Existing immigrants who are in the process of getting legal status are put at a disadvantage when the law isn’t enforced.
2. It establishes a slave class of worker who is often willing to accept almost any type of work conditions and who is fearful of deportation which gives employers of illegal immigrants unfair advantages and the employees unfair disadvantages. As well as suppressing wages in industries where American workers are indeed available but the employers would rather have a “captive” employee.
3. A large number of those that immigrate illegally have criminal backgrounds before even mentioning their first act when entering the country is that of committing a crime.
I could go on but this is enough.
“How about “affiliating” with Republicans?” They are. Its a Republican club. Duh. Even you could attend if you wish, they wont kick you out.
Methinks you doth protest too much.
