Whereas Ms. O just needs curlers and slippers to complete her attire!

She's a fashion icon! Women everywhere will be rushing out to buy similar necklaces! LOL

Rush riffed on this fiasco in his opening today. That little trip was a block from the White House and cost thousands of taxpayer dollars in security, closing the street, checking out the vegetable stands etc. etc. All so Michele Ma Belle could get her picture in the paper and feel like she matters.

ah, cut Michele a break.
At least she’s not back in her WH “war room” office sifting through FBI files for dirt on her husband’s opponents

From another article:

For that reason, it's probably just as well that the first lady didn't stop by the Endless Summer Harvest tent yesterday. The Virginia farm had a sign offering "tender baby arugula" -- hydroponically grown, pesticide free -- and $5 for four ounces, which is $20 a pound.

Obama, in her brief speech to the vendors and patrons, handled the affordability issue by pointing out that people who pay with food stamps would get double the coupon value at the market. Even then, though, it's hard to imagine somebody using food stamps to buy what the market offered: $19 bison steak from Gunpowder Bison, organic dandelion greens for $12 per pound from Blueberry Hill Vegetables, the Piedmont Reserve cheese from Everson Dairy at $29 a pound. Rounding out the potential shopping cart: $4 for a piece of "walnut dacquoise" from the Praline Bakery, $9 for a jumbo crab cake at Chris's Marketplace, $8 for a loaf of cranberry-walnut bread and $32 for a bolt of yarn.

Huge opportunity for WIC scalpers here.

Buried in the WP’s Media Notes column this morning Howard Kurtz explains that Politico reports Michelle is planning to use events like these to build support for healthcare reform. Kurtz writes:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/09/18/AR2009091801102.html

“Secret Weapon?

“Michelle Obama will soon be talking about more than her vegetable garden, Politico reports:

“’Pushing for health care reform didn’t turn out so well for the last first lady in a Democratic White House.

“’But with a retooled staff, and an under-the-radar summer behind her, Michelle Obama plans a packed autumn that aides say will include a “dedicated focus” on health insurance reform — the same issue that brought such headaches to Hillary Clinton. “She will do things that fit in with what she cares about, like health care reform and the implications it has for family and kids,” said Camille Johnston, Obama’s director of communications. “She will spend her time focusing on where policy and people intersect.”’

“’For the health care reform push . . . the aim is for the first lady’s imprimatur to put a friendly face and a noncontroversial spin on a complex, highly partisan issue. She won’t get into the weeds on health care, pushing specific details or plans as Clinton did. Instead, she’ll make the soft, soccer-mom sell, highlighting the need to eat healthy, exercise and get preventive care.”’”

This is to rich.
mickey is going to shop at way over priced farmers markets to promote healthy food.
mickey is going to walk around in clothes to small for her making her look huge to promote a healthy body.
mickey is going to try and tell me she eats healthy and exercises with that body - get real.
Unless she is never in another picture no one but a numskull will buy it.

The guy in the striped tie is the mayor, I think. The other suit is the chef, according to how I understand the original caption.

Either way -— Michelle’s image consultants crashed and burned on this one.

What happened to the White House Garden?

Obviously, their planting of Tuscan kale failed, ant they had to make up that deficit some way.

Couldn’t she have simply sent her mother out to buy the cabbages?

Must be nice to be the “Queen” ...

Wa Po (Dana Milbank) wrote today that 3 dozen vehicles w/ SS agents were used, several streets and a Metro stop were blocked off, magnetometers were set up ...

THEN, MO entered her armored limo for the 1 1/2 block drive to the farmer’s market (it is specially set up for her each Thursday) ...

The carbon footprint for all of this was several tons - not to mention the $50K per hour cost for all of the prep work by the SS and staff ...

AND all of the food she bought was WAY over-priced - a dozen eggs for $5, etc.

Besides, there are plenty of farmer’s markets around that she could go to - but NOOOOOO !!!

I was over by the White House the other evening on Sunday...Michelle was on the balcony eating dinner with the kids and Barack was on the phone the entire time. It was surreal to watch them in action up there...I always thought the balcony was rarely used for anything but the dog was out and everything. I can’t remember any other people being out there any other time I have been by the WH.

Yeah, I can't believe these communist squatter are in our house either.
