A series of funny and yet tender moments happened at last night's Phillies game, when Steve Monforto of Laurel Springs reached over an upper-deck railing to snag a foul ball, then handed it to his daughter Emily.
The 3-year-old promptly reared her arm over her pink baseball cap and tossed the ball away.
No sooner had play-by-play man Tom McCarthy said, "Nice grab," than he was saying, "Whoop - there it goes!" during the TV broadcast

I saw that last night, gives one hope that all is not lost.
What a cutie pie and what a great Dad
Difference between a father and a daddy, right there.

My godmothers husbands brother, pitched for the White Sox and the Cubs....in the days when you had to have a regular job when your baseball career was over..after he retired he became a mailman. how things changed.
anyway I had a team ball from the cubs from a 1950’s year, I cant remember which year, when I went away to school, my kid brother 12 years my junior, decided to play ball with it. completely wiped clean of such luminaries as Ernie Banks......and of course the pitcher, of whom I spoke....
Sweet. My vote for Dad of the Day.
That’s adorable!

Hanysewski?
I have an autographed baseball from the 1953 (I think that was the year) Panama City, Fliers. Every member signed it.
Unfortunately none of them became famous tho one, Chase Riddle, later managed a couple of national championship college teams.
It was Great!!
Given the Philadelphia fans’ penchant for shocking behavior, I’m surprised the fans didn’t boo the kid for throwing the ball back.

After catching a foul ball, Steve Monforto hands it to his daughter, Emily, 3 -- and she throws it back. The toss and loss happened during the fifth inning on Sept. 15, 2009, at Citizens Bank Park. (Image from a YouTube video.)
Thanks for the post - that is so cute.
The Greatest
By Kenny Rogers
Little boy in a baseball hat
stands in the field with his ball and bat
Says, “I am the greatest player of them all”
Puts his bat on his shoulder and he tosses up his ball.
And the ball goes up and the ball comes down,
Swings his bat all the way around
The world so still you can hear the sound,
the baseball falls to the ground.
Now the little boy doesn’t say a word,
picks up his ball he is undeterred.
Says, “I am the greatest that there has ever been”
And he grits his teeth and he tries again.
And the ball goes up and the ball comes down,
Swings his bat all the way around
The world so still you can hear the sound,
the baseball falls to the ground.
He makes no excuses he shows no fear
He just closes his eyes and listens to the cheers.
Little boy he adjusts his hat,
picks up his ball, stares at his bat
Says “I am the greatest when the game is on the line”
And he gives his all one last time.
And the ball goes up and the moon so bright
Swings his bat with all his might
The world’s as still as still can be, the baseball falls
And that’s strike three.
Now it’s suppertime and his momma calls,
little boy starts home with his bat and ball.
Says, “I am the greatest, that is a fact,
But even I didn’t know I could pitch like that!”
Says, “I am the greatest, that is understood,
But even I didn’t know I could pitch that good!”

The video is available on mlb.com at the following link. Definately one of the cutest videos I’ve seen in a while.

Pretty sweet. The Dad said there was a collective gasp from the stadium and she got a look on her face like she had done something very wrong. He just wasnted to reassure her she was just fine. Daddies and their little girls, it’s a beautiful thing.
