In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
pink \PINK\ verb
1a. to perforate in an ornamental pattern
1b. to cut a saw-toothed edge on *
2a. pierce, stab
2b. to wound by irony, criticism, or ridicule
* Indicates the sense illustrated in the example sentence.
Example sentence:
"The sleek curtain requires no sewing; we pinked the edges to add a bit of detail." (Jennie Voorhees, Martha Stewart Living, April 2002)
Did you know?
Our unabridged dictionary, Webster's Third New International, includes 13 distinct entries for "pink," whereas our abridged volume, Merriam-Webster's Collegiate, satisfies itself with the five most common. (Words get distinct entries in our dictionaries when they have different etymologies or different parts of speech.) Today's "pink," the only verb of the five, is from a Middle English word meaning "to thrust." Of the remaining four, the only "pink" older than the verb (which dates to 1503) is a 15th century noun referring to a kind of ship. The next-oldest noun has since 1573 referred to a genus of herbs. The noun referring to the color pink and its related adjective date to 1678 and 1720, respectively. Evidence suggests that a new verb "pink" -- a synonym of the verb "pink-slip" -- is also emerging.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

how many WINS do they have...?
In sheep shearing, the verb “to pink,” means to shear so closely that the pink skin of the sheep shows through the stubble.
This isn’t cable, this is your everyday original broadcast NBC. You know, the kind that you can get with rabbit ears and without a monthly bill..................LOL!
LOL.......I don’t do network TV....it’s Fox, HGTV, or a DVD for me.
I fainted yesterday, was feeling light-headed all day and finally just went down on the stairs. Fortunately, I landed on the kitchen floor instead of back down the stairs on the concrete floor of the basement. So far today, I am noticing a bit of light-headedness still. I did not take that new med today, I will talk it over with my doctor later this month. I think that is the cause.
Good grief girl.............you need to be on the phone with the Doc now, not later in the month.
Thank goodness you didn’t seriously injure yourself.
dang I swear I took off that tagline......
yeah, I checked my heart rate and glucose.....all was well, after anyway. they put me on a blood pressure med, for another purpose and warned me it could cause problems....it must have built up in my system to finally cause problems...I see the doctor in a couple of weeks, I am stopping the med for awhile to see if this all goes away. I have felt light-headed off and on, but nothing like fainting dead away. I am not tolerating it, so we will talk when I see him again. I am pretty sure it can wait. They told me to quit it if it gave me problems.
I like your homework sentence since it will tie in with the potential WFTD for tomorrow.
You and me both! Every Aggie within 100 miles should be there to horse laugh him back to DC.
I will take your word for it, as you are far better versed in those type things than I will ever be.
Just stay away from the stairs when you’re feeling light-headed. LOL!
GRRRRRRRRRRRRR -— hubby is home...can’t accomplish too much work outside when it is pouring rain. Now my goal for the rest of the day will to try and keep him out of my way. Maybe he will come up with some compelling reason to go to the store or the library or SOMETHING!!!!!!!!
Ti, you cannot wait until the end of the month. Is this any kind of BP med? You need to find out what caused the fainting before it happens again.
I should have read further down the thread. I still think you need to call the office and see if they want you to come in sooner.
I know, but they warned me and told me to quit it if I had problems. While I had momentary feelings of light-headedness, it went away and did not last all day as it did yesterday. They put me on this for a reason other than BP, but it is a BP med. One question they will ask is if it went away when I go off the med. I am much better today, than yesterday. I want to see how the day goes. If it is still happening later today I will make an appointment. I suspect they will only send me home and see me again in a couple of days to see if it’s gone. All my squad buddies know about this and I have had lots of adivce. I had to ditch my shift last night, one guy covered part of it. Another friend wanted to bring me dinner and sit with me last night. I don’t much like being the patient.
My west coast kids arrive tomorrow morning, and today is Maya’s birthday......so I am not anxious to go sit at a doctor’s office.
Well, just don’t blow off your symptoms and think it’s no big deal. Think of what you would do if it happened to your spouse and act accordingly. People in health care are notorious for ignoring important problems, as you know.
Old news. Am I the only one who has noticed that most blacks in politics and celebrity positions fall on a particular side of the black racist paper bag test?
NOPE!!!!
I really never paid much attention to racism in general, but something I have started noticing recently is the racism of the so-called enlightened white liberals. A couple weeks ago one of the kids brought a friend to church who happens to be bi-racial. We know the young man because his sister is a good friend of Jax who spends a bunch of time here. During coffee hour after service I noticed just how few people actually spoke to him. People I know to be normally very welcoming to any new person visiting our church just totally ignored his presence.
It really bothered me.
