With some posts out there regarding H1N1, I decided to offer something that works for my kids.
I have 2 sons. My older boy will be 3 years old in a few months and my younger one is about 1 1\2. My wife and I took him off the bottle and formula on his first birthday and started giving him the Vitamin D milk. Shortly thereafter he got an ear infection, then another and then another. The doctor was wanting to put tubes in his ears. I said no way and came to the conclusion that the milk change was probably the cause so we cut him off.
His primary beverage became water and pineapple or apple juice. He wasn't a big protien eater so we were concerned about his protien intake. I began to look for a milk substitute. The first thing I bought was something called "Alive" Whole Food Energizer Shake. It didn't taste that great nor mix very well. The second thing I bought was "Muscle Milk". It is very sweet and mixes well together as they both moderate eachothers taste. I took the can of Alive and put about 1/2 - 3/4 of it into the tub of Muscle Milk and mixed it up. I use 2 scoops (Alive Scoop) of the powder per 8 ounces of water. I now use milk for both sons to mix it with. My older boy has now been conditioned to be able to take regular milk without getting an ear infection.
This started at about 15 months old. He is now 32 months old and has not had a fever since. He goes to daycare 3 day per week and anyone who has kids in daycare knows that it is a breeding ground for colds and flu's. He has gotten a runny nose here and there but I believe the Alive has given him super immunity. I am not one of those parents that is a germaphobe, I believe they should be exposed to things to build immunity. I believe he gets exposed but his immune system is strong enough to fight stuff off before it "takes him out" with fevers and such. We did the same thing with my 1 1\2 year old and the results have been the same so far except he has never had an ear infection and has not had a fever since before his first birthday. They are both big and strong especially my younger one (He eats a far more varied diet than my older boy). There was no one in his age group that matched him in size and neither myself nor my wife are very big (5'7 175 & 5'4 135). Both of my sons are all muscle and are incredibly stong and healthy especially my younger one.
I attribute their size and strength to the Muscle Milk and all the protien. The Alive I believe is responsible for their incredible ability to not get sick and fight off disease.

I have done some research on high-end earphones and microphones. When the membranes in them are slightly scratched, scarred or damaged, their performance degrades exponentially.
The most basic, helpful thing, above and beyond practicing good hygiene, that any adult could do, would be to start on Vitamin D and NAC (N-acetyl cysteine). Not very expensive, widely available, next to no side effects if intake is not excessive. If there are adverse interactions with prescription meds, I’m unaware of them.
I was born with altresia/microtia (a deformed ear) so I live with reduced hearing every day. The military would not take me because I am deaf in one ear. I could have surgery to restore my hearing but it is risky and could make things worse. I have had 5 ear operations when I was 10-12 years old to make it look more normal. I wish I never did it though. At night when it is silent I get a sound that I hear in my left ear that sounds very similar to bacon frying in a pan. I have learned to live with it but it is annoying and has caused me frustration and even anxiety in the past. I turn on a noisy fan at night on high to kill the sounds in my head when it is too silent.

Thanks for posting it. I’m very interested.
no flaming here from me........a quick question: What are doing about maintaining some degree of humidity in your home or child’s bedroom? Do you have a vaporizer? Ears like moisture, too, and AZ is a bit dry... just a thought....
Interesting to know, thanks for the details. I’m glad you’ve found a way to cope with your situation.
As for the fan that you use, you might be doing something that this article discusses:

We got 1 after the first ear infection. I think it is sitting in a closet now.

humidify your environment~~~ eyes, ears, throat & nose are not immune to a dry environment, they all need moisture ... :)
Message: everyone's different. An important part of life is figuring out how your body works best, and doing something about it.
of course :)
My communist father in law is from Hawaii and used to have allergies until he moved to Arizona.
I myself never had allergies until about the last 7 years during spring and summer. I have lived in Arizona my whole life.
I now get a Kenalog shot 1 or times per year.

Well, here we go again playing doctor.
There are many reasons for recurrent ear infections, but I can tell you that I’ve seen dozens of adults who are deaf because of untreated ear infections as children.
The tubes fall out over time, and the hole closes up and scars over. Hearing is not affected.
I do agree that one should let the body fight off infection rather than jump at an antibiotic at the first sniffle.
My daughter got constant back to back ear infections. As soon as the RX ran out, the infection came back. Hesitatingly, she got the tubes--best thing I ever did. She never had another ear infection from that point forward.
Who super imposed Obamas face paint on that guy?
