I've noticed a debate has begun over whether we should go to the moon again or save our space pennies and try for Mars instead.

I think we should form a consortium with the Euros, the Japanese, the Chinese and the Indians and do both.
Earth has the engineers and the scientists and the resources to do it all. Others may join ....Australia, Canada to name two. Brazil might want to help

Between super volcanoes, super tsunamis, atomic earthquakes, global warming, global cooling, giant asteroids and kudzu, we’d better find a way off this planet.

I don’t see the need to put a human on mars. Lets build a probe with advanced propulsion and send it to the nearest star system.

Getting a propulsion system that can get us to mars inside a week would be a great step in the direction of Alpha Centauri.
Obviously light speed is out of the question so we should strive for 1/8 light speed or 1/4 light speed. Just for starters.

Better to work out your systems 3 days from home before you take them two or three years from home.
Faster, please.
Started NASA from scratch and got to the moon in 11 years with computers that wouldn’t compete with your gameboy. Now we’re stuck in low earth orbit wondering how we can get back to the moon.

It’s time to go to Mars. We can do it and it needs to be done.

Its time to go to Mars. We can do it and it needs to be done. I'm not trying to be snide but I would like to know what the need is.

To keep up with the general need of humankind to explore, to push onto the next frontier, etc, etc. That’s the “need”.

Send Zer0, Pelosi and Reid to Mars. it has been proposed by scientists, sci-fi writers and the like that we shoot our waste into the sun....why spoil Mars when we can give that trifecta a warm welcome....
