
Marion Grant and her husband, Charles Szakacs, are both avid gardeners. Szakacs grew a cabbage this season that weighed more than 18 pounds. His garden is on a quarter-acre of his familyâs land near Caputa. Szakacs has taken to making sauerkraut with his abundance of cabbage.

Hearty Camping Breakfast: Fry thin sliced raw potatoes (skin on) until lightly browned. Add drained saurkraut and sliced sausages sir fry until cooked through. Add a couple of beaten eggs and stir fry to cook. Great for deer hunting in the Black Hills.

The apple crop in NYS is phenomenal this year.
It’s one of the best in a long time. The trees are just loaded.

(Although the worst part of fall is that last pear on the tree, that invariably ends up in at least one broken bone. Every year.
I suppose is some areas, it’s that last apple. Next, will come all the dizzy spells from picking up pecans.)
