Thank you all very much for your thoughts, prayers and expressions of sympathy at the passing of my Mother-in-Law. Today we received a sympathy card from a friend of the family that was so eloquent that I thought I should share it with you:
Dear Mary and Family,
I am very sad at your mother's passing. I feel fortunate to have known her. We got to talk during our drives down to the Outer Banks. She was a loving and caring person with great conviction and a great sense of humor. Also, she was very Catholic so I thought I would share a few things written by a distinguished Catholic evangelist, publisher, lecturer and writer named Frank Sheed in his work called "Theology for Beginners." He talks about how every living thing has a life principle, a soul, created by God. But the human soul is unique in that it is a spirit. Spirit is the element in us by which we know and love. Only in man, spirit is united with a body, animates the body, making it to be a living body. For every man the moment comes when the body has been so weakened or damaged that it can no longer respond to the live-giving energies pouring into it from the soul. This is the moment of death. The body proceeds to dissolve. The soul, remember, did not receive its existence from the body; there is no reason why it should end with it.
I believe what Frank Sheed wrote, although his words do not erase the sadness and pain of the loss of a loved one. For me his words provide a glimmer of hope, a hope that I believe your mom also shared. So I look forward to meeting your mom's spirit again one day and will never forget having known her.
Thank you for allowing me to be your mom's pallbearer. It was a privilege and an honor. Your mom always made me feel at home and I am happy to say that I feel like I am part of her family and I am grateful. I will miss her.
With Love,
Glen.
