Furious Serena Williams dumped out of U.S. Open after she told an official: 'If I could, I'd ...

This was the dramatic moment when Serena Williams screamed her way out of the U.S. Open.

TV viewers around the world saw the irate Wimbledon champion launch a threatening, profanity-laced tirade at a female line judge after being called for a foot fault.

'If I could, I would take this f****** ball and shove it down your f****** throat,' she reportedly said.

The diminutive lineswoman reported her words to the umpire, who called in the tournament referee at Flushing Meadows in New York.

With the crowd booing, Miss Williams could be heard on the court microphone pleading with the lineswoman, saying: 'I didn't say I would kill you. Are you serious? I didn't say that.'

But her extraordinary outburst meant she was docked a point on match point, handing a semi-final victory to bemused Belgian opponent Kim Clijsters in one of the ugliest-ever endings to a major sports match.

Miss Williams had already received a warning for smashing a racquet, so the next sanction was a penalty point for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Not since John McEnroe was defaulted in the Australian Open in 1990 for swearing at the umpire has a top player made such an ignominious exit from such a high-profile match.

It happened when, with the 27-year-old American serving at 5-6 and 15-30 in the second set, she faulted on her first serve.

On her second serve, the line judge declared a foot fault, a call rarely, if ever, seen at that stage of a match.

That made the score 15-40, putting Miss Clijsters one point from a place in the final.

Miss Williams stormed over to the line judge, cursing and shaking her racquet, pointing at her and thrusting a ball in her face.

The Stealers stole the Superbowl a couple of years ago thru a series of very bad calls and non calls....well, that's life..but you didn't see the Seahawks slamming their helmets into the turf...

I don't feel one bit of sorry for either of the "twins"...they've shoved their finger at the American public for so long, its coming back to bite them in their very big behinds.....

Nah! That's not threatening....

Right. Serena had already broken one racket that day and was not about to break another!

After watching a little female Asian MD degrade and hurt my black daughter purposefully, I am not sure what is going on.
Yeah, right. And you wonder why race relations are as bad as they are.

Here's another shot of her earlier in her career when she was less out-of-shape, and yes, I hope at least steroid testing is done on her ... but her hurling out "F" bombs on to the line judge was about as crass as I've ever seen her. Mary Carillo feels she should be suspended.

Oh, now if we dont’ root for snobby American tennis players, we are unpatriotic?

I never supported Serena. She is an arrogant B and a pathetic sport. Venus on the other hand is much more cool and a good sport.

I did not see this game and have no comment on the specific call. However, to accuse asians in general as racists, and anyone who does not support Serena as unpatriotic is simply nonesense.

Serena Williams Serena Williams told reporters at Wimbledon on Wednesday that she’s excited about Barack Obama’s candidacy but won’t vote for him because Jehovah’s Witnesses “don’t get involved in politics.”

I think going around telling people you are excited about a candidate ‘getting involved in politics’.

it appears to me that Serena has been singled out on this particular call as I don't recall it being made against anyone else.

Perhaps she was the only one making the foot faults?

I think all athletes should have multiple samples taken in various ways on a constant basis and that they be kept on file somewhere for future testing.

And if at a later date new technology detects a performance enhancer then they should not only be stripped of their wins but also any associated money prizes and titles PLUS extremely high fines to financially brake them.

Look at that picture she is either a hermaphrodite or on some type of steroid. She she have every title she has taken from her and fined millions.

I catch a whiff of racism in this

Americans like to root for the underdog and in Clisters case, she was making a remarkable comeback against arguably one of the greatest female tennis players ever, it's a great story, you can't necessarily play the race card here, afterall this is liberal New York, Obama country, and the home of Senator Hillary and Chuckie Schumer, Mayor Bloomberg, Congressman crook Rangel and the list goes on and on and on.......

I saw a recap of an interview with her about it...can’t remember which channel, likley Fox & Friends. She acknowledged that she had acted poorly. SHe sounded humble, subdued. She made no excuses for the outburst.

"She did take full responsibility for her outburst and made no excuses."

I'm left wondering if you saw the media availability after the match wherein she took almost no responsibility, said all of the other players so it, and even went so far as to lie and say that she could not remember at all what she actually said to the line judge.

"The Williams sisters are still amazing athletes and role models."

Venus very well may be, but Serena's display is nothing for a young woman to set her sights on.

I am of asian background and proud to be. In fact, I am proud to be one of the rare asian and indian right wingers!! I have no racist bone in my body.

However, I do have a grudge against the system that favors blacks and hispanics - affirmative action. I don’t begrudge people of these races, but the system and politics that makes it that way!

Many millions of asians come to this country from much tougher and modest backgrounds, and yet are constantly vicitmized in college admissions and job opportunities because of affirmative action.
