Vanity: Strange thing in my town today.
vanity

Posted on 09/13/2009 12:32:54 PM PDT by sand lake bar

I live in a university town, not too large or small. Today (Sunday) I go out to buy gas. The first two stations I went to were closed, no gas. This never happens. The third station I went to had long lines. I passed another open station on the way home--again, long lines. I've not seen anything like this since the early 1970s.

Not drawing conclusions, just reporting.

Odd that 4 stations were closed for same reason.

Plenty of gas down here in Texas and no lines. :)

Gas is plentiful and fairly cheap down here in Texas. I here rumors that there are so many loaded oil-tankers in the Houston off-shore anchorage with no buyers that more than a few people are getting worried.

Reminds this poster of 9-11.

Was in my car without the radio on. First indication I had of anything unusual, was (huge) lines at every single gas station.

Could it be due to people leaving DC filling up there?

LOL! Sounds like the 70s alright. Your first two stations probably had distribution problems. That started a panic that cascaded to the other stations around town. Everybody’s pulling in to top off the tank “JUST IN CASE!OMG!” Watch what happens after the first station runs out of supply and posts a “No Gas” sign. Panic!

We’re about 4 hours away from D.C. I did consider that it might be football traffic. But as I said, I’ve never seen this in the 16 years I’ve lived here.

My guess would be a delivery problem, a truck out of commission, two or three drivers out with the flu and suddenly there’s a problem getting the goods to market.

Sounds reasonable. I’m happy that no one else is reporting anything similar.

Changeover to less oxygenated non-Summer gasoline in the Pittsburgh air quality region is always Sept 15th.

Could it have to due with some refineries already switched over?

I’ll bet all those stations got their gas from the same supplier and that the supplier was having some kind of problem.

You’re reassuring me that this is just an innocent glitch in the system.
