Salina animal control officers thought Angie Cartwright's family pet, Lucey, looked like a pit bull.
The officers explained that they were taking Lucey to a veterinarian for a breed check. Salina has banned owning unregistered pit bulls and mixed breeds that are predominantly pit bull since 2005.
But Lucey is now back home and Cartwright credits a genetic test kit that helps pet owners identify the heritage of their mixed-breed dogs.
Reportage fail.
What kind of dog is that, then?
Happy the peeps got their dog back, tho’
Pitbulls and Rots should be put on the “make extinct” list. Just too many tragedies....
Is that Salina or just a pic of another dog?
Since I think I've seen it a dozen times - I'd guess it's a file photo.
What the HELL has happened to Kansas? If the rugged people who settled the state were here, they’d throw up.
” Reportage fail “
Breed all about it!
This looks more like an ad for a DNA-testing kit than an actual news story. If it’s a real story, it’s one of the most poorly written that I’ve seen in a long, long time, and I’ve seen some doozies lately.
And that pic is definitely a pit bull.
I have a black lab, that if you were to cut his ears off like that, would look darned similar. But I’ll say this, not knowing what breed this is, I’d first guess a pit bull, then one of the other Bully breeds (American Bulldog, etc..)
The test showed that Lucey had no more than 12.5 percent each of bull terrier DNA, boxer, and Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The largest percentage of DNA, 25 percent, was Bernese Mountain Dog.
A Bernese Mountain Dog:
Go figure...

Angie Cartwright holds her dog, Lucey, in this Aug. 31 photo in Salina. Cartwright chose to have her dog DNA tested to determine her heritage after the dog was mistaken for a pit bull.
Crappy article that obviously used a file photo rather than an actual pic of the dog.
I have a PBT. That sure looks like a pit to me.
The dog in that pic looks like a Cane Corso to me.
