DA reviewing Chargers' Merriman case

The District Attorney's Office on Wednesday began reviewing accusations of domestic violence that reality TV star Tila Tequila brought against star linebacker Shawne Merriman of the San Diego Chargers.

The DA will review reports from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department and decide if the player known as "Lights Out" will be charged.

Merriman was arrested early Sunday after Tequila accused him of choking and throwing her to the ground while she was trying to leave his home in suburban Poway. Tequila signed a citizen's arrest warrant accusing Merriman of battery and false imprisonment. Both are felonies.

Spokesman Paul Levikow said the DA's office can charge Merriman, reject the accusations or refer them to the San Diego City Attorney's Office for consideration as misdemeanors.

She was drunk and probably acting very disorderly. She probably had to be restrained from doing something really stupid. Merriman was probably not the perfect gentleman here, but i don’t see this case going anywhere. There were enough eye-witnesses there, if Merriman was really out of line he would have been charged.

Kobe Bryant, the Duke Lacrosse team, Ben Roethlisberger, and now Merriman. This is turning into an epidemic. Add McNair to that list, though his consequences were unfortunately much more severe.

I'm no prude and I'm all for having a good time, but these guys ought to think before they hook up with every crazy skank that comes along. I mean, I should think a professional athlete can afford to have some standards.

the Duke Lacrosse team

For the record, the Duke Lacrosse team did not touch the whore Crystal Mangum. But they got accused of it and the Drive-By Media convicted them. Retribution is forthcoming for that Frame job.

Certainly. I certainly didn't mean to imply that they had, but rather that they endured similar allegations with a similar degree of credibility.

I also don't think Roethlisberger has admitted to having sex with his accuser, though I don't think he's denied it, either. He's been smart and has done most of his talking in court, which must be difficult considering all the grandstanding his accuser's lawyer is doing.

Speaking of which, I just saw a story (that I think I'll look for again and post) that Roethlisberger's accuser's lawyer is asking for a list of every woman Roethlisberger has slept with. I haven't seen his explanation, but that sounds like a serious abuse of the discovery process.

I'm worried some lawyers are making a cottage industry out of extorting celebrities with sex assault allegations. It's disgusting, and the plaintiffs' bar ought to be ashamed of themselves for refusing the police their own and speak out against this perversion of the legal profession and our justice system.

Instead of trying to instill some standards, they simply adopt a new euphamism, changing their name from the "Asocciation of Trial Lawyers of America" to the "American Association of Justice." The state trial lawyer associations are doing the same thing. It's pathetic, but at least they have the courtesy to self-segregate themselves from more respectable parts of the profession.

We follow the False Rape Accusation Industry closely over at Liestoppers. You have a combination of trial lawyers wanting to get TV time, the Feminazi contingent (Nancy Grace, et al), and alleged victims with a big payday goal, and you have a lethal combination.

Big name athletes have bulls-eyes painted on them.
