Jaison and Elizabeth...overly sensitive about racial issues?

Update: Elizabeth is. (Barf alert)

"All Americans are racist except for us enlightened liberal Northeasterners blah blah blah people of color blah blah blah hope and change blah blah blah look at progressive little me blah blah blah vote Obama or you're a racist blah blah blah..."

Bitch, please. Spare us.

"The modern definition of 'racist' is 'someone who is winning an argument with a liberal'."

From what I have read his oil company is valued at over $20 million. I believe the figure was either 21 or 26 million.

I thought Russell’s Katrina story was funny since he has never was been in New Orleans. He looks to be a good snake. On the one hand, I hope he doesn’t make the jury, but if he does I hope he is the first one on the jury which should make for some interesting Ponderosa videos.

I feel certain he'll be around for a while anyway; otherwise, why build up the "best villain" title if he will be short lived. Since he doesn't want nor have a need for the million, it will be interesting to see how far he gets and how rotten he'll be.

God help the people in his tribe. They're gonna need it with him around. LOL

I like the idea of having a villain around to keep things entertaining, but SeeBS should also start promoting "heroes" as a counterweight to the villain. And I hope that the people we saw nothing of in episode 1 (as in about 60 percent of Galu) get some screen time in the next couple of episodes. Obviously it's very difficult to give 20 people screen time in an hour, but I don't want to see a repeat of Survivor: Palau when Jenn (remember her? I don't either) wasn't shown speaking until episode 4.

As for Russell, some fans on other boards have been saying that his whole "evil" thing is just playing a character. I don't think that's quite it - I think Russell's one of those guys who enjoys having power over others. He has a certain amount of power as owner of a company, but he can't treat his employees too badly, so his power there is limited. Survivor offers him an opportunity to take things farther than he ever has and be as nasty as he wants, and I think he genuinely wants to do it.

I don't know what kind of oil company he has, I haven't investigated it yet, but I do know that oil field workers are a rough and tumble bunch of fellas.

The first episode seemed to fly by for me. I too want to hear from the other contestants. It's hard to form an opinion when you don't see much of them.

Was reading at another site where somebody was quoting a newspaper article - no link - that “his” company was really his dad’s, older brother’s and his.

The older brother said he was kinda’ like that and thought he ran the company.

This season was originally supposed to have only 18 contestants, but SeeBS decided to make two alternates regular contestants at the last minute. The alternates were Ashley and Erik.

Natalie reminds me of Calli from CSI Miami.

Judging from the past three seasons (Gabon, Tocantins, Samoa), it seems like there’s a new unofficial Survivor rule. The young woman who’s the LEAST mactress-y (model + actress = mactress) MUST be voted out first. She must also meet at least one of the following qualifications:

- Being the smartest young woman

- Being the most athletic young woman

Meanwhile, the following types can NEVER be voted out first:

Weak, out-of-shape liberal old men with beer guts. Right, MIKE?

Weak, dumb young women who latch onto alpha males and ride their coattails, and then claim that they’re strong because they do cardio. Right, ASHLEY?

Jerks who weaken their tribe by stirring up trouble and sowing discord. Right, RUSSELL H. and BEN?

There is underground chatter that it’s Ben that is thrown out of the challenge.

There are some people who go through the previews frame by frame looking for clues. It seems in a couple of shots of the challenge all the players sitting out their turn move around on the bench but Ben stays in one spot.

SURVIVOR PING!

Foa Foa Tribe (Yellow Buffs): Ashley, Ben, Betsy, Elizabeth, Jaison, Mick, Mike, Natalie, Russell H.

Galu Tribe (Purple Buffs): Brett, Dave, Erik, John, Kelly, Laura, Monica, Russell S., Shannon, Yasmin

Losers: Marisa

Episode 2 title: "Taking Candy From A Baby"

At Foa Foa, Russell H. continues to stir up trouble. And an extremely physical challenge leads to Jeff Probst throwing out a contestant.

Combined Reward/Immunity Challenge: Three players from each tribe will physically fight for possession of makeshift basketballs. They will then pass the balls to three of their tribemates standing on platforms, who will attempt to toss the balls into baskets on the far side of the court. The winning tribe gets fishing gear and immunity. The winners will also select one member to visit the opposite team's camp, where that person will get a clue to a hidden immunity idol and have an opportunity to make friends with contestants from the other tribe.

Spoilers (highlight to see):

Reward/Immunity Challenge Winner: Galu

Visits Opposing Camp: Yasmin

Voted Off: Betsy

I'll be back after the show with the recap.

"That's one small step for man, one giant leap for..."

"Yo, Neil, man, Imma let you finish, but I think Russia had the best space program this year."

Ben’s an ass. A major ass.

That said, Yasmin was being unreasonable when she was whining about Ben tackling her. Any time there’s a physical challenge where the sexes aren’t fully separated, things like that will happen - and have happened many times before in Survivor history. Come on, it’s the 21st century. No more of this silly damsel in distress stuff.

But maybe I’m just biased because I play tackle football with guys.

Your thoughts?

I thought Ben’s racist comments were deplorable. I’ve already facebooked about it, and left another comment on a blog. I think it’s horrible that he seemed to have gotten away with everything he said.
