G.W. Bush, did you know his Skull and Crossbones nickname was “Temporary.”

I heard that Al Gore's Secret Service codename was "Al Gore."

I’m obsessed with personal economy. If something is offered for free, my ears perk up, and since metal garbage cans are rarely offered for free, and microwaves are indeed offered regularly, I opt for the microwave. As for effort, the only effort I expend is driving to the offering person’s house and picking up the old device from the curb.

If you add up the money you spend on the added driving collecting these microwaves, and assuming (unrealistically) you have unlimited interior storage space for all the unusable volume, I think you’ll still find that a $20 garbage can (assuming you can’t get that for free) is cheaper. Better still, find empty metal paint cans (1 or 5 gal) from a painting company, and you’ll have unlimited free storage.

I agree.

Living in “fly over country”, it is possible to make it, if prepared. or maybe not. No harm in being prepared.

Particularly if one values life and are willing to endure hardship. Perhaps they have young children that will need assistance and knowledge, etc. Miracles happen. Who knows how wide spread it might be in effects?

An EMP blast could do this.

It is unlikely that one could be detonated by terrorists at the necessary altitude.

We've set off enough nukes during the 50's and 60's to know that this EMP pulse attack stuff is nonsense.

Your post shows you know nothing about EMP.

The kind of EMP that is dangerous over a wide area is produced when the detonation is above the atmosphere. At the altitude you detonate it...there is NOTHING to kill you. It's detonated hundreds of miles above the sfc. Reason: Line of Sight. The higher and stronger the blast...the more distance the EMP travels across the sfc of the earth.

The blasts in the 50's and 60's that you are talking about were sfc detonations. WITHIN the atmosphere. Its the Compton Effect that creates the EMP when gamma radiation hits the upper atmosphere. This didn't happen in those nukes "we set off"...except the ones we set off above the atmosphere.

Educate yourself on EMP. You can still disagree with respect to the damage it will cause...but your post shows you don't understand what is being said.

Of course if there is a sfc blast...we've got bigger problems than EMP. The concern HERE (in this article) is a 1+MT blast 200+ miles above the sfc. That's a completely different animal. If its running (and it has a chip it in...etc)...it will get fried.

"I, for one, welcome a return to teh Gold Standard."

The gold standard was one of the major causes of the last depression. It's no better than the system we are using now, except that it gives the government one more way to screw us, like Roosevelt did:

The Gold Confiscation Of April 5, 1933
From: President of the United States Franklin Delano Roosevelt
To: The United States Congress
Dated: 5 April, 1933
Presidential Executive Order 6102

Forbidding the Hoarding of Gold Coin, Gold Bullion and Gold Certificates By virtue of the authority vested in me by Section 5(b) of the Act of October 6, 1917, as amended by Section 2 of the Act of March 9, 1933, entitled

An Act to provide relief in the existing national emergency in banking, and for other purposes~',

in which amendatory Act Congress declared that a serious emergency exists,

I, Franklin D. Roosevelt, President of the United States of America, do declare that said national emergency still continues to exist and pursuant to said section to do hereby prohibit the hoarding gold coin, gold bullion, and gold certificates within the continental United States by individuals, partnerships, associations and corporations and hereby prescribe the following regulations for carrying out the purposes of the order:

Section 1. For the purpose of this regulation, the term 'hoarding" means the withdrawal and withholding of gold coin, gold bullion, and gold certificates from the recognized and customary channels of trade. The term "person" means any individual, partnership, association or corporation.

Section 2. All persons are hereby required to deliver on or before May 1, 1933, to a Federal Reserve bank or a branch or agency thereof or to any member bank of the Federal Reserve System all gold coin, gold bullion, and gold certificates now owned by them or coming into their ownership on or before April 28, 1933, except the following:

(a) Such amount of gold as may be required for legitimate and customary use in industry, profession or art within a reasonable time, including gold prior to refining and stocks of gold in reasonable amounts for the usual trade requirements of owners mining and refining such gold.

(b) Gold coin and gold certificates in an amount not exceeding in the aggregate $100.00 belonging to any one person; and gold coins having recognized special value to collectors of rare and unusual coins.

(c) Gold coin and bullion earmarked or held in trust for a recognized foreign government or foreign central bank or the Bank for International Settlements.

(d) Gold coin and bullion licensed for the other proper transactions (not involving hoarding) including gold coin and gold bullion imported for the re-export or held pending action on applications for export license.

Section 3. Until otherwise ordered any person becoming the owner of any gold coin, gold bullion, and gold certificates after April 28, 1933, shall within three days after receipt thereof, deliver the same in the manner prescribed in Section 2; unless such gold coin, gold bullion, and gold certificates are held for any of the purposes specified in paragraphs (a),(b) or (c) of Section 2; or unless such gold coin, gold bullion is held for purposes specified in paragraph (d) of Section 2 and the person holding it is, with respect to such gold coin or bullion, a licensee or applicant for license pending action thereon.

Section 4. Upon receipt of gold coin, gold bullion, or gold certificates delivered to it in accordance with Section 2 or 3, the Federal reserve bank or member bank will pay thereof an equivalent amount of any other form of coin or currency coined or issued under the laws of the Unites States.

Section 5. Member banks shall deliver alt gold coin, gold bullion, and gold certificates owned or received by them (other than as exempted under the provisions of Section 2) to the Federal reserve banks of there respective districts and receive credit or payment thereof.

Section 6. The Secretary of the Treasury, out of the sum made available to the President by Section 501 of the Act of March 9, 1933, will in all proper cases pay the reasonable costs of transportation of gold coin, gold bullion, and gold certificates delivered to a member bank or Federal reserve bank in accordance with Sections 2, 3, or 5 hereof, including the cost of insurance, protection, and such other incidental costs as may be necessary, upon production of satisfactory evidence of such costs. Voucher forms for this purpose may be procured from Federal reserve banks.

Section 7. In cases where the delivery of gold coin, gold bullion, or gold certificates by the owners thereof within the time set forth above will involve extraordinary hardship or difficulty, the Secretary of the Treasury may, in his discretion, extend the time within which such delivery must be made. Applications for such extensions must be made in writing under oath; addressed to the Secretary of the Treasury and filed with a Federal reserve bank. Each applications must state the date to which the extension is desired, the amount and location of the gold coin, gold bullion, and gold certificates in respect of which such application is made and the facts showing extension to be necessary to avoid extraordinary hardship or difficulty.

Section 8. The Secretary of the Treasury is hereby authorized and empowered to issue such further regulations as he may deem necessary to carry the purposes of this order and to issue licenses there under, through such officers or agencies as he may designate, including licenses permitting the Federal reserve banks and member banks of the Federal Reserve System, in return for an equivalent amount of other coin, currency or credit, to deliver, earmark or hold in trust gold coin or bullion to or for persons showing the need for same for any of the purposes specified in paragraphs (a), (c), and (d) of Section 2 of these regulations.

Section 9. Whoever willfully violates any provision of this Executive Order or these regulation or of any rule, regulation or license issued there under may be fined not more than $10,000, or,if a natural person may be imprisoned for not more than ten years or both; and any officer, director, or agent of any corporation who knowingly participates in any such violation may be punished by a like fine, imprisonment, or both.

This order and these regulations may be modified or revoked at any time.

Thats odd, how come it didn’t when we detonated nukes south of Hawaii, and in the ionosphere in the 50’s and 60’s?

Emp attacks are fiction.

Folks seem to be

unable or unwilling

to wrap their minds around the notion that . . . .

—terrorists
—Russians
—Chinese
—North Koreans
—our own ‘black ops’ folks
—Iran
—Pakistani’s
et al
. . .
. . .
. . .

ARE ALL

quite sufficiently if not thoroughly under the very heavy handed control of the globalist oligarchy.

At some point, it is merely a strategic or operational or even convenience issue

as to which

of such groups are USED to destroy the USA sufficiently to enable an easier and quicker overt rise of the global government.

So . . . are you saying that the North Koreans could not manage such an event from off our shores by various means?

Or the Chinese?

Or the Russians?

Sorry, in my below, I’m not trying to per se insult you or your IQ.

I just sometimes think that folks must be

believing in the TOOTH FAIRY to protect our beloved homeland.

On the other hand, you can buy the mesh separately
Or just store stuff in ammo cans. Or PC computer cases for that matter. Those are also Faraday cages because they throw out so much RF that needs to be contained. As someone said metal trash cans would be cheaper and do the same job.

America will have little say about returning to a gold standard. It is going to happen elsewhere and to be a player, America will finally revert.

It may take years to evolve, and even more for America to capitulate, but it will be the only refuge of scalawag ministers and bankers desperately searching for cover.

I prefer to prepare for zombies. Much more guns that way. After all, we can't prepare for ALL the apocalypses so why not pick the ones that would be more fun.

Nonsense. An emp wave does not, cannot travel far from the source that creates it. It isn't self-sustaining, or something that can be created then 'set free' to travel till it hits something

And using microwave screens is downright funny.

A microwave and "emp" pulse are two completely different things.

Those screens are simply metal, which reflect the microwave back into the oven. Although the "metal" in microwave doors these days is transparent and built right into the glass, the plastic "screen" is useless.

So rather than srounge around for old, early microwave screens, just use a piece of steel screen to block the evil emp waves, it's do the same thing- which is nothing.

OF COURSE.

However, some minimal protection . . . say of a few transister radios with long shelf life batteries could

be of significant help in dealing with the rest of the horrors.

So might having a generator safe inside a Faraday cage until after such blasts to run the fridge.

Poor white trailer trash in metal trailers may be better off in some respects . . .

Ain’t gonna be pretty on a number of fronts.

I see no reason to avoid reasonable prep where practical.

I'm all for an EMP if it would spell the end of government as we know it.

You do not know what you are wishing for!

Everyone should read One Second After by William R. Forstchen. I had a ho hum attitude about the EMP threat until I read that book. An EMP attack would be the end of the United States. The death toll from the aftermath would be devastating and we would become a third or fourth world country almost overnight.

LMAO! There isn't enough gold in the world for every nation to return to the "gold standard". How ridiculous, where do people come up with this stuff?

So gamma rays don't travel that far from the source? First of all, what makes the EMP an EMP is created not by the weapon or the source...but the Compton Electrons.

2nd-How did Starfish Prime manage to damage electronics 1300KM away if it doesn't travel far from the source? This was 1962 and it shorted out (900 miles away) the electronics of the day. Image the same test today over Kansas.

Again...educate yourself.

What a fascinating physiological anomoly.

Masses of text almost hurt mine.

And, in a text based forum . . . there are limited options for emphases.

You are quite welcome to skip my posts entirely. It’s highly unlikely I’ll be altering my style.
