US office furniture shipments to drop

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - The Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association is predicting that U.S. shipments of office furniture will be down by almost one-third this year.

The Grand Rapids-based trade organization says on its Web site that shipments are expected to drop 31 percent this year, to $7.7 billion, when compared with 2008.

The decline in U.S. shipments is expected to slow to just 1 percent, at $7.6 billion, next year.

Other than Steelcase of Grand Rapids, MI, what large US producers of office furniture are there?

I just gave away an office full of furniture because it would cost too much to move and no-one showed for the sales opportunities...
After the families appreciated the couches, desks, tables etc..I stopped by Homey Despot and flipped the bird @ the mexicans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I believe Knoll, Inc. has a plant in or near Grand Rapids, MI. Knoll does a lot of high-end furniture.

The 3 biggest office furniture makers used to be Steelcase, Haworth, and Herman Miller, all of Michigan. HON of Muscatine, Iowa is number 4 overall.
