Bank refuses to replace €500 note man claims was eaten by his cat

A man who said his cat had eaten most of a €500 note has been refused a replacement by the German Bundesbank.

The administrative court in Frankfurt upheld the federal bank’s refusal to replace the note, after the man failed to provide enough evidence to back up his claim.

According to a report in the Neue Juristische Wochenschrift weekly legal magazine, the court said generally around half of a bank note must be available, and the claimant must be able to prove that the rest has been destroyed, to qualify for a replacement.

Bundesbank workers refused to replace the man’s €500 note after suspecting the bits he had presented were from several different notes.

The court said it shared the Bundesbank suspicions, adding that in order to be convincing, the man would also have to produce undigested remains from the cat’s excrement.

If the rest of the bank note was not digested by the cat's digestive system, he should have taken the cat poooo and went to them and said “ you want evidence ? here is your evidence “ .... and let the court sort it out.

Cute cat.

Fun trivia fact: The 500 euro note is not the most valuable piece of currency. That honor goes to the Swiss 1000 franc note.

IIRC, to replace a Federal Reserve Note at a bank, you have to have at least half the bill and, I think, parts of both serial numbers.
