Anyone know how to embed a YouTube video?

Posted on 09/05/2009 7:04:36 PM PDT by Still Thinking

Several times lately I've wanted to embed a YouTube video in an FR thread. I copy the embedding code from YouTube, put it in the Body box, but when I preview or post, it doesn't show up. I'm sure I've seen flash videos embedded (the fundraiser box for example), but I can't seem to find any threads with one so I can look at the source to see what FR likes.

I've tried tweaking YouTube's code a little but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

You can only link to a file ... FR does not support embeding.

I don’t think Jim allows the embed tag (could be wrong). I think you have to link to the youtube URL.

See, here's an example. This thread came up with a video in that location, but if I put it in the post, it doesn't show up.

Only Jim Rob can embed. You (we) can only put the link.

Apparently y’all are right. Is it a copyright concern? It can’t be bandwidth cost as all that’s transmitted is the link to where the video is hosted.

back a long time ago, they realized by allowing posters to embed links, FR had no control over what embeded content could do.

I could see how that could be a concern.

Only the mods can do that.

Many people will link to a youtube video but give no explanation or clue to what it's about. Or they will give you a link to a blog site where the video is embeded, when they could have just given you a direct link. One of my pet peeves.

No, not an image, I was trying to embed a video, like you sometimes see at the top of the page with a triangular VCR style play button in the middle.
