How often have you heard someone whos' loved one was a victim of a criminal say that they would execute the perp themselves if they could. Would it really help them feel any better about it? I don't know.

Means the law does not apply to you if you do not think it should apply to you. It kind of sounds like chaos or anarchy to me. Gibbs did say it was the “silly season right?

It means that somebody wants to “get even” through illegal means, and wants the reader to believe that it’s for the purpose of punishment and not revenge.
Ask your mommy what it means.
I feel the calm, righteous anger unencumbered by guilt at the source of shadowy figures who direct actions to obliterate the God given rights of the peoples of this Republic.

Yes, that’s what I think it means, just wanted to know if I was the only person who saw it this way. Thanks for all the comments, and the welcome.
Historically, such as in California, vigilantism came about as a gradual process, not just when government was no longer protecting the public from organized crime, but when the government was either taken over by criminals, or supporting organized crime over the public.
At first, without any trappings of vigilantism, citizens would in an orderly manner complain to their government about wrongdoing. At that point, they were usually ignored by their government. After a time, citizens groups would start to form, mostly to petition for grievances, and to seek political change. All very openly and aboveboard.
The political leaders would at first deride them, but at some stage afterward, start to feel threatened by a legitimate political opposition, so would conspire with the organized criminals to disrupt or attack the citizens groups. Usually not in too severe a manner, just to convince them to stop protesting.
At this point, a core of determined citizens would still try to peaceably assemble, and perhaps draft flyers, advertising programs to force the criminal organizations to leave their area, similar to neighborhood watch programs. This was also when they would appeal to higher government, which would likely ignore them as well.
This was when things started to become violent. The organized crime gangs, with or without complicity by the government, would physically attack and injure, or kill, some of these watchmen. And instead of trying to persuade the organized criminals to settle down and not make more trouble that is bad for business, the government would declare the peaceful citizens organizations “outlaws”, and threaten them with arrest.
In turn, this forced the organization underground, and it finally became a vigilante organization. But still, more interested in driving the criminals out than injuring or killing anyone.
Sensing their restored power, the organized criminals would then strike back at the public, attempting to “teach them a lesson”, by brutality, mayhem and murder.
And only *then* would the vigilante organization fight back. Because only by *then* would the public be so enraged and injured that it would quickly and willingly form a vigilante mob.
Then, and only then would the public strike back, all called a “vigilante mob”, even though only a relative few would be members of the underground organization. At this point, as a large mob, they usually try to burn the criminals out of the buildings they are occupying, and driving out the criminals supporters, and killing any of the violent criminals they capture.
Finally, after this night of chaos, the higher level government is forced to intervene, “to restore order”, though by the time they have arrived, order has been restored, the organized criminals and their political allies either killed or driven out of town, with just the clean up remaining.
After some brief period of attempting to determine who the vigilantes were, the higher government gives up, hearing what was going on for once, and the situation returns to normal, with a new, reform government.
This pattern of vigilantism has been repeated around the world, not just in the US, but in Asia and Europe. Only because of media embellishment and publication has it been seen as a distinctly American practice.
