But the lasting image from this highly anticipated kickoff to the 2009 college football season may be Blount punching Boise State's Byron Hout after the final whistle and then needing to be restrained from fans by police on the field.
As the Broncos began celebrating on their famous blue turf, Hout yelled in Blount's face and tapped him on the shoulder pad. That drew an immediate scream from Boise State head coach Chris Petersen, but before Petersen could pull Hout away, Blount landed a right hand to the defensive end's jaw.
Then as Blount was being pulled off the field, he had to be restrained from fans heckling him on the way to the Oregon locker room.
"You know, just emotions getting the best of players, and you know, it was a hard fought game, really proud of our defense," Petersen said. "Typical first game, lot of sloppy football, but I thought our defense rose to the occasion and played great."

This fellow was a Heisman contender but the coach already had problems out of him and kicked him from first practice because of his behavior. This Hout has major issues.
Opps meant Blount has issues. Hout will be dressed down and wish he never said a word too.
Make him a Czar in the 0 administration.
> What do you think should happen to him? I think he has to be suspended for one game minimum.
I’d have him charged with Assault with Intent to Injure. Assuming it’s a first offense $500 fine and/or three months in gaol. Sports should not be immune from the law, whether they are on the field or off.
(With the exception of Ice Hockey and Boxing)
I'm sure after tonights lovely display of sportsmanship, the UofO AD is calling Phil Knight on thier dedicated "redphone" to make sure his check book is ready because they are going to be on the hunt for a new coach at the end of the season.
Raised in Miss, and was originally recruited by Auburn, but was too much of a psycho to be academically eligible even by SEC standards for football recruits.
Then was listed as a J.C. student. Then Florida St and Oregon, programs both in desperation mode lately, got into a bidding war over him. Oregon won. Lucky them.............
Should of heard his interview in the locker room after the game trying to apologize for his actions.
He sounded like a 5 year old trying to communicate.
UofO hits a new low trying to justify putting this thug on the field and pretend he could attend college level education courses besides pot smoking 101 and P.E.
Hopefully his year is done. Probably back to JC and then maybe Bobby Bowden will get his shot.
Typical gangsta sucker punch.
Coward.
But typical.
“In defense of OU though, it was their first game under a new coach so one would expect some confusion.”
The new coach excuse doesn’t explain why Oregon lost to Boise LAST year as well....
Idiot. He needs to be kicked off the team.
Typical punk azzed sucka punch and I do mean typical.
That punk needs to be thrown off the team.
They have a dozen different uniforms so their fans will spend more $$$ to have one of each.
There is another vid of it here:
It uses ESPN’s footage and has other angles different from som Youtube vids. The article is from Oregonlive.com.
To me, it looked like Hout was saying “good game” or somthing like that and slapped Blount on the shoulder pad like players do. Blount took it the wrong way and went after Hout.
There couldn’t be a racial component to this, could there?
Certainly the Racist in Chief has an opinion on this he is just dying to share with the rest of us.
Reportedly, he said the white Boise State player acted “stupidly”. He will later invite both parties to Washington for beers.
Blount said earlier this last week that he was embarrassed over last years play and that they were going to give Boise State an “ass whoopin”.
Hout simply asked him how he liked his “ass whoopin”.
I read your Nebraska comment with a chuckle, the cool headed coach that grabbed up Blount and headed him to the locker room heading off a bigger possible problem was former Nebraska quarterback and Heisman winner, Scott Frost.
Lawrence Phillips was no thug he was just and idiot and every team has a few.
