State Fish and Wildlife officials say a 5-year-old Canadian boy was hurt when a cougar pounced on him while he and his family were hiking a remote trail in northeastern Washington.
Department spokeswoman Madonna Luers says the big cat jumped the boy while he was hiking Wednesday with his parents and sister on the Abercrombie Mountain trail in the Colville National Forest. She says his mother began beating the cougar with a water bottle and the cat ran off.

I was attacked by a cougar the other night. She kept me until the wee hours of the morning.. Oops, wrong type of cougar...my bad.
NEVER let kids or smaller folks straggle on the trail.
Keep them to the center of the group.

We must remember the words of Jorge Boosh and be compassionate conservatives. That cougar is a product of the age of electronics, TV to be specific. To put it bluntly, that cat is a vidiot.
It saw one Tyson commercial too many - the ones with the “young and tender” message.
Following the intellectual path of Paul Watson (founder of Sea Shepherd Society, sinker of whaling boats at their docks, ad nauseam), that cougar refused to be the speciest that other cougar tend to be, and therefore tried the TV commercial motif on that child instead of Bambi’s relatives.
Most hikers I've met along mountain trails pack a weapon (or some form of personal protection) - just in case.
Perhaps.
Reminds me of a briefing we received from the park rangers near Yellowstone: Carry pepper spray, ring bells, make noise on the trail. Brown bears eat berries, leaves, etc. Grizzlies eat just about everything. When you see bear scat on the trail, brown bear scat will have remains of twigs, leave, berry seeds; grizzly scat will have bells in it, and will smell like pepper.
A gun will work against the two-legged predators as well, so it’s a two-fer. And the predator won’t bother you (or anyone else) anymore - ever - if applied properly.
Yeah, that’s the ticket!
glad I could help...
