John Kerry: Global Warming Is The Next 9/11
Business Insider ^ | 8/31/2009 | Jay Yarow

Posted on 09/01/2009 9:39:20 AM PDT by Signalman

John Kerry has written an op-ed for the Huffington Post comparing the inaction in response to a heating planet to the inaction of President Bush before September 11th.

Kerry reaches deep into the bag of global warming hysterics to uncork this piece, saying that the fate of the nation hinges upon the passing of some sort of climate change legislation.

It's ridiculously over the top, but we suppose it might get a few supporters all riled up and ready to fight for the bill this fall. Of course, it's so over the top that it might just turn off a bunch of people:

On August 6, 2001, President George W. Bush famously received an intelligence briefing entitled, "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S." Thirty-six days later, al Qaeda terrorists did just that.

Scientists tell us we have a 10-year window -- if even that -- before catastrophic climate change becomes inevitable and irreversible. The threat is real, and time is not on our side.

Facts, as John Adams said, are stubborn things. Here are a few you need to know: Atmospheric carbon-dioxide levels have risen 38% in the industrial era, from 280 to 385 parts per million (ppm). Scientists have warned that anything above 450 ppm -- a warming of 2 degrees Celsius -- will result in an unacceptable risk of catastrophic climate change.

Some people worry about terrorists with nuclear weapons.

Some people worry about the weather.

Scientists have warned that anything above 450 ppm -- a warming of 2 degrees Celsius -- will result in an unacceptable risk of catastrophic climate change.

During the late Ordovician period there was a massive ice age (with associated mass extinction) - and atmospheric CO2 levels were more than 4,000ppm higher than those of today.

I suggest we don't do a thing about global warming until we have non-wind-driven water flooding a coastal hotel.

In other words..."Show me the water!"

Very very good.

If he’s so concerned, let him go fight the LA fires, they’re probably doing more for raising the temp than all human activity for the last century.

I’m in the east but just talked to someone in Denver and they’re getting smoke and haze from those fires...

Some people worry about terrorists with nuclear weapons. Some people worry about the weather.

One political party thinks the U.S. is the greatest country in the world. The other party thinks the sky is falling.

Scientists project that the Arctic will be ice-free in the summer of 2013. Not in 2050, but four years from now.

Sen. Kerry: I realize that this is just pocket change to you, but I will bet you $50,000 that on June 21-Sept.21, 2013, the Arctic will not be ice-free. Take my bet?

Now that he is the senior Senator from Massachusetts, I guess he feels the need to hear his own oratory.

What a disgraceful person - I get the feeling more and more that there may not be many sane people left in that state with the reelections of such oafs for representing them in Congress(add Barney Frank to list) and at State levels(Obama look-alike Deval Patrick).

Okay, I'll say it:

Mr. Kerry, that was utterly offensive.
