I use a A combination of DVD Shrink (to rip) and DVD Decrypter (to burn).

Not exactly for the novice, but they will get the job done 100% of the time.

Both are free.

Ditto on the DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter...they are both free and work very well.

Same here, but I believe DVD Shrink isn't available for free any longer.

I used to use DVD Shrink and DVD DeCrypt until it stopped working on some newer dual-layered releases that I rented from the store. I now use DVD-FAB and it works prefectly but it’s not free. It burns the dual-layered DVD’s too.
