Safari Crashes on Hotair.com (Mac help)

Posted on 08/30/2009 11:54:58 AM PDT by Feline_AIDS

Mac Freepers I need your help!

Every time I load hotair.com, Safari loads 3/4 of the way, then crashes.

These are the plug-ins I have now:

-MoveNetworks Quantum Media Player -iPhotoPhotocast -Java Plug-in for Cocoa -Shockwave for Director -QuickTime Plug-in 7.6 -PhotoCenterPlugin1.1.2.2 -Quartz Composer Plug-In -Flip4Mac Windows Media Plugin 2.2.1 -Flip4Mac Windows Media Web Plugin 2.2.1 -Verified Download Plugin -Shockwave Flash -Microsoft Office Live Plug-in -QuickTime Plug-In 7.6 -DivX Web Player

I already tried "resetting" Safari in the menu.

Please help! Safari works so well, but I always forget and go to hotair and then it crashes all my windows. Firefox works fine, but I'm just not crazy about it.

Thanks!

Try Firefox. Very stable at most all web sites.

OOps. Didn’t see your last sentence. Still, work with Firefox a little more. It’s the one I lke most. Also, try OMNIWEB.

I am having the same problems with some sites but I use Safari on a Compatible so I expect some glitches.

Firefox works better in most places but it is so so slow to load and I hate it.

Hmm. Doesnt seem so slow to me on an older G4 and my newer MacBook Pro laptop. Do a search for Omniweb. Very well done and stable.

Safari seems to have some issues related to handling cookies, from what I’ve found from testing sites. No problems with IE and Firefox, but cookies would not be written out properly with Safari. Found some JavaScript that was at fault and when we modified the code, we got it to work with Safari.

But cookie handling is one area with Safari than can be touchy.

You were saying ...

Every time I load hotair.com, Safari loads 3/4 of the way, then crashes.

I loaded it just fine. I did the main page. Is there another page that is crashing for you or is it the main page?

You might also try creating a new account, and then try out Safari to Hot Air and see what happens on the newly created account. You can delete the account after you're finished with it, if you want.

You don't include the information as to what computer, what operating system (and version) and so on... so it might be difficult for someone to help.

Have you tried the Apple Forums? They've got sections for different software there.

My Mac PPC on OSX10.5 crashes on safari when i attempt to load Hot air.com. I use Comino which works fine for me. Safari is a highwaty for hackers any way.

You think that's bad, you should try the Mosaic browser with Hot Air. :O)

Seriously, though, in order for embedded vid’s to show up on Hot Air, I have to use IE. With Firefox, I just get blank space where the vid should be.

Ummm... you ought to try being on the Windows platform then.... it would be like the "Space Shuttle" for viruses, compared to Safari and Macintosh (which would be like being on a tricycle for viruses...) ... LOL....

Thanks for the response. I’m just a lurker at hotair, so I’m never logged in.

I’m trying the main page.

It’s a 2007 macbook pro. 2.4 Gh intel, os 10.5.6

I suspect it’s some incompatibility with cookies or plug-ins because it used to work fine. Though I may have done a software update and that’s what caused it.

Thanks, I’ll try apple forums too.

Make sure you try creating that fresh and new account, first and see if you still have the problem. If you do, then it may be something more complicated — but if you don’t have the problem, then there’s something that got corrupted in one of those files and/or plug-ins or an incompatibility with one of the plug-ins. But, it’s unlikely to be an incompatibility because it wouldn’t be incompatible after you’ve been using it all this time, since you haven’t added anything new. It sounds more like a corrupted file of some sort...

That’s what the new account will do for you... allow you to test out that theory...

Ditto - mac mini 10.5.8, Safari 4.03 (5531.9). Maybe its all those plugins? Try deleting them all see how it works, then add back one by one to find the problem.

I’m using an iBook G4 with the latest version of Safari (4.0.3), and OS 10.4.11 installed, and have no problems loading Hotair.com.

MacBook Pro here. No problems with hotair.com. Have you installed software updates from Software Update? Latest version of Safari?
