But the ramshackle sheds and tents dotted around the compound behind the home of Phillip and Nancy Garrido in the middle of a working-class Californian district are now yielding their squalid secrets. Extraordinary pictures obtained by The Sunday Telegraph allow the first view into the interior of the concealed labyrinth - and offers a startling insight into the sordid living conditions endured by Miss Dugard and her girls, now aged 11 and 15.
It reveals both the mess and the mundanity inside the huts and tents that, along with a makeshift shower and outhouse, were hidden from neighbours by thick trees, high fences and tarpaulin covers.
There is a sofa covered in papers, pillows and electrical equipment; a pile of women's clothes and underwear heaped in a corner of a tent; cheap, shoddy cupboards and clothes drawers; and toys, mattresses and cushions strewn across filthy carpets.
A woman's hair-brush sits next to make-up trays and a set of colouring crayons next to a fish-tank. There are gardening books for adults and children, an array of shells, knick-knacks and porcelain figures, and repeated evidence of a cat-lover.
A bag of Special Kitty pet-food sits next to a copy of Cat Fancy magazine, while children's books such as The Cat Who Went To Paris and cat ornaments sit on a shelf above a cat jigsaw.

I sincerely hope this poor woman can salvage the remnants of her life, and that the scumbag who kidnapped her meets a horribly painful death in prison.
I would love to teach Jaycee and her daughters to snow ski! It would be my small part to letting the three of them know how big this world is when it is viewed from the top of a mountain!
My DIL is going to be an Occupational Therapist, she would love to work with them.
